In early September, torrential rains brought by a tropical depression were recorded from Nghe An to Thua Thien-Hue. In many areas, total rainfall rose to over 1,000mm, causing widespread flooding in low areas, leading to heavy loss in human lives and property.
As of September 5 evening, the death toll due to flooding rose to six while 10 others remained missing in the provinces.
The hardest-hit localities were Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri.
Understanding the difficulties of people affected by the disaster, in the past 2 days (September 18-19), Plan International Vietnam has cooperated with the local authorities to set up flood relief camps in 4 communes: Tan Hoa, Minh Hoa, Canh Hoa and Phu Hoa at Quang Binh province.
Three main sets of relief kits (worth of 845 million VND), including 1,129 hygiene kits, 500 educational kits and 300 cash assistance kits were hand-delivered to households, children, and people with disabilities living in affected areas./.
