Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on June 21 welcomed his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Sen, for a revisit to Vietnam’s Binh Phuoc province, where he embarked on a journey to save his country from the Pol Pot regime 40 years ago.

The visit is regarded as highly significant especially as the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year.

Recalling the arduous yet glorious years during their joint efforts for national liberation, PM Phuc emphasised that this is an opportunity for both countries to remember the history of Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity.

He also affirmed that Vietnam will always be a faithful neighbouring friend to the Cambodian country and people.

PM Phuc congratulated Cambodia on its significant achievements in building a peaceful, stable and developed country under the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party and the Royal Government of Cambodia.

For his part, PM Hun Sen said he was moved to revisit Vietnam, an intimate and faithful neighbouring friend of the Cambodian people.

Praising the solidarity and friendship between the two countries, PM Hun Sen expressed his gratitude to Vietnam for helping Cambodian people to escape from the genocidal regime of Pol Pot and revitalise their country.

Prior to the meeting with PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, PM Hun Sen visited historical sites and witnesses in Loc Ninh district of Binh Phuoc province, where 40 years ago he and his comrades in arms began the revolutionary path to salvage the Cambodian nation.

In Loc Thanh commune, PM Hun Sen attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate a community house, a gift presented by him to the local people./.
