The Vietnam-Poland Business Forum is one of the key events during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to Poland.

9th largest investor of Vietnam in the EU

At the forum, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highlighted that Poland is currently Vietnam's 8th largest trading partner and 9th largest investor among European Union member states. Over recent years, bilateral trade between the two countries has consistently grown at a double-digit rate (21.4% in 2024).

In terms of investment, as of the end of December 2024, Poland had 33 investment projects in Vietnam, with a total registered capital of nearly US$500 million. Meanwhile, Vietnam has established 4 investment projects in Poland, with a total registered capital of US$3.6 million.

Speaking at the Vietnam-Poland Business Forum, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his desire and called on Polish businesses to increase their investments in Vietnam to ensure mutual benefits and "win-win outcomes."

"These achievements are commendable and a source of pride, serving as proof of the strong and amicable cooperation between Vietnam and Poland over nearly 75 years," Minister Nguyen Hong Dien noted. However, he candidly acknowledged that the outcomes of economic cooperation have not yet matched the potential and strengths of each country or the excellent traditional friendship between the two nations.

The Minister further emphasized that in the coming period, global political and economic conditions will continue to evolve rapidly, unpredictably, and with increasing complexity. Risks such as supply chain disruptions and mounting global challenges will pose significant threats to the economic stability of individual nations.

Facilitating Polish businesses in cooperation and investment

In his speech, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien shared with the forum the outcomes of the second Vietnam-Poland Bilateral Economic Cooperation Consultation, held on January 16 (local time) under the co-chairmanship of Vietnam's Minister of Industry and Trade and Poland's Minister of Economic Development and Technology.

During the consultation, the Polish Minister of Economic Development and Technology announced a positive development that Poland has officially initiated the internal ratification process for the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

"I appreciate this decision and am fully confident that, once this important agreement is ratified, it will create a dual and breakthrough impact, boosting investment relations between the two countries. It will also facilitate Polish businesses, in particular, and EU enterprises, in general, to expand their production and business operations in Vietnam. This is especially relevant in areas where Poland has strengths and Vietnam has demand, such as high-tech engineering industries, semiconductor technology, software, nanotechnology, logistics services, and green energy transition," Minister Nguyen Hong Dien said.

The Minister also noted that Vietnam is currently accelerating its industrialization and modernization efforts, with a strong focus on developing foundational industries and emerging high-tech sectors such as semiconductor chips, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing. These efforts aim to establish a modern, green, clean, and sustainable industrial base. Vietnam is also prioritizing the construction and development of a synchronized and modern strategic infrastructure system, including expressways, high-speed railways, subways, airports, seaports, and international financial centers.

In the energy sector, Vietnam is promoting a green transition by developing renewable energy sources and new energy types. Additionally, the country is restarting its nuclear power development program to diversify and stabilize energy supplies, ensuring national energy security, supporting economic and social development, and contributing to the realization of the net-zero emissions goal by 2050.

The Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade affirmed that the Government of Vietnam, along with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and other relevant ministries and agencies, stands ready to collaborate with the Government, ministries, and competent authorities of Poland to support and serve as an effective bridge for the business communities of both countries. This aims to foster engagement and facilitate future investment and cooperation activities.

The Minister also expressed hope that the Government and relevant authorities of Poland would provide the best possible conditions for Vietnamese enterprises, including Polish-Vietnamese entrepreneurs, to explore investment opportunities and develop production and business activities in Poland. As the largest economy in Central and Eastern Europe, Poland presents a promising market and could serve as an attractive gateway for Vietnamese businesses to further expand into the European market.
