President Phuc Expects Stronger Security Cooperation With Laos

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has voiced his hope that the two countries’ public security ministries would continue to uphold tradition and augment closer cooperation in dealing with strategic issues and combating drug crimes.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on January 10 hosted a reception for General Vilay Lakhamphong, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security of Laos, who is on a working visit to Vietnam

On behalf of Vietnamese Party and State leaders, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated Vilay Lakhamphong on being elected a member of the Politburo and the first leader of the Ministry of Public Security to be conferred the title of General of the People's Public Security of Laos.

The Vietnamese Stat leader applauded the General's efforts in promoting the special and precious traditional relationship between the two Parties, the two States and the two ministries of public security.

Regarding the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc highlighted defence and security cooperation as the mainstay of the relationship between the two countries.

The President highly appreciated the results of coordination and cooperation orientation in the coming time between the two ministries, adding that the Vietnamese Party and State always create conditions for the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to cooperate regularly and effectively with their Lao counterpart, especially in crime prevention and combat, and human resource training.

President Phuc suggested both nations’ police forces launch a broad array of exchange activities, and step up closer coordination in 2022 which marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

General Vilay Lakhamphong expressed his sincere thanks to the Party and State and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam for their valuable support and readiness to stand shoulder to shoulder to help Laos, especially during the difficult times.

In the coming time, the two ministries will focus on promoting crime prevention and combat, especially drug crimes, enhancing coordination to ensure security and order in the border areas, and maintaining social order and safety to promote investment projects in Laos, including Vietnam-invested projects.

The two sides agreed to strengthen the education of young generations about the tradition of the special friendship between the two countries.
