The Kien Giang provincial Party Committee has issued an action plan to realise the 12^th National Party Congress resolution by working out feasible solutions suitable to the real situation in the locality.

According to the action plan, by 2020, the province will strive to obtain the average economic growth rate of 8.5% per year, produce 5 million tons of food and over 755,500 tons of fish, obtain USD1 billion in export turnover, help 99% of households have access to the national grid, create jobs for 35,000-40,000 labourers per year, reduce the poverty rate by 1-1.5% per year, and provide safe water for 90% of population.

Under the leadership of the provincial Party Committee, the province will focus on synchronously carrying out solutions to boost the development of the socialist-oriented market economy; stabilising the macro economy, creating an environment and impetus for socio-economic development; re-structuring the economy, increasing productivity, efficiency and competitiveness; and re-structuring agricultural production in combination with building new style rural areas.

Accordingly, solutions will be implemented for safe and sustainable agricultural production by expanding the production of key products such as rice, fisheries and pepper, and developing the processing industry and expanding consumption markets.

In particular, the province will pay attention to develop industries serving agricultural and sea economy production, as well as those that use a large number of labourers. Meanwhile, the development of services in industrial, trade, tourism and transport sectors will also be a focus, together with building synchronous infrastructure, and improving the investment environment.

To realise the target, the province will make tourism development a key economic sector by developing sea economic industries in combination with protecting national sovereignty and improving coastal residents and islanders, and building Phu Quoc Island into a modern and high-class ecological tourism site reaching regional and international standard. In addition, planned economic regions will be developed while active measures will be carried out to deal with climate change, prevent natural disasters, protect natural resources and the environment.

According to Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi, the action plan has been disseminated among Party members, officials and people, creating a strong consensus on realising tasks set in the 12^th National Party Congress and in the province’s 10^th Party Congress resolutions./.
