Survivors of Abuse Find Shelter at Social Support Center - Hanoi Peace House
The Social Assistance Center - Hanoi Peace House Shelter officially launched on December 8, marking an important step forward in providing comprehensive and free services for women and children suffering from violence.
Peace House Shelter is a model operated by the Center for Women and Development since 2007, when there was no Law on Human Trafficking Prevention and Control, and the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention, with the purpose of providing a temporary shelter, safe and free for women and children suffering from domestic violence, sexual abuse and human trafficking.
The Social Support Center - Hanoi Peace House Shelter continues to improve the overall quality of the support services for victims of violence and human trafficking. |
After 17 years of operation, Peace House Shelter has directly supported more than 1,665 women and children suffering from gender-based violence and has increasingly proven its practicality and effectiveness.
To meet the urgent needs of women and children experiencing violence in the new period, Peace House needs changes in structure, functions and tasks.
Transforming from a shelter into a social assistance center will create favorable conditions and a legal basis to help Peace House strengthen connection and coordination in referrals and connection with other communities, functional ministries, service providers such as police, health, justice, lawyers, psychology, social assistance, vocational training and other related organizations and experts.
At the launch, Duong Ngoc Linh, Director of the Center for Women and Development which is in charge of the Peace House Shelters, said that the purpose of the Peace House Shelter is to provide timely, urgent and comprehensive support to victims, help restore physical and mental health, protect legal rights, and create conditions for safe and sustainable reintegration.
In order to be able to provide comprehensive services to victims in the context that the social work profession in Vietnam is not yet developed, victim support services are not complete, as well as financial resources are still limited, the center has strengthened multi-sectoral coordination with authorities, local organizations and departments to resolve family cases, ensuring the legal rights and interests of women and children.
In addition, the center has built a network with service providers in legal, medical, vocational training. As the results, 90% of temporary residents rated themselves satisfied with the services of Peace House, Linh added.
Also at this launch event, the book titled "Going Towards Peace" was launched, with 12 stories of women who suffered from violence, abuse, and human trafficking who received support from Peace House, finding peace to move through the dark times and step into a brighter future.
