Over 100 Foreign Diplomats Join Hanoi Friendship Cycling to Promote Green Practices

The program, the third of its kind, drew the participation of 350 people, including nine ambassadors and more than 100 diplomats from the embassies of India, Laos, Russia, Peru, and the Czech Republic, among others.
Organizers said the event aims to strengthen friendship activities and raise public awareness of environmental protection, while promoting the image of Hanoi as a modern, civilized capital and a city for peace.

HAUFO President Nguyen Ngoc Ky called the program an opportunity to introduce to domestic and international friends the image of Hanoi, with the peaceful space surrounding Hoan Kiem Lake, and promote the habit of cycling.

Indonesian Ambassador Denny Abdi said both Indonesia and Vietnam have committed to net zero emissions by 2050 at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in the UK in 2021, noting this event is a practical activity to achieve the goal, and demonstrates Vietnam's contribution to a peaceful, green and resilient world.

Hanoi was the only Asia Pacific locality to be granted the "City for Peace" title by UNESCO on July 16, 1999, recognizing its contributions to the struggle for peace, its efforts to promote equality in the community, protect the environment, promote culture and education and care for younger generations. The Trip Advisor website has ranked Hanoi in the top 25 most popular travel destinations in Asia and 25 most popular tourist destinations in the world. In comparison, Time Magazine in the US voted it one of three destinations in Vietnam in the top 100 most wonderful places. The city welcomed 22.6 million tourists in the first 11 months of 2023, an increase of 32.4% year on year, the municipal Department of Tourism has reported. Among the arrivals, international tourists accounted for 4.1 million, three times higher compared to the same period in 2022. The total tourism revenue reached VND84.25 trillion (USD3.5 billion), a rise of 58.4% year on year. |
