The beauty of Ba Be Lake
Situated 250 kilometres from Hanoi, Ba Be Lake is a fresh lake in the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan. Being one of the largest fresh lakes in the world and a part of Ba Be National Park, it was recognised as a national tourism site of Vietnam.
The lake was formed over 200 years ago and lies in limestone mountains, surrounded by imposing nature. It has an area of almost 5 million square metres with a depth of up to 35 metres and contains 90 million cubic metres of water
It has become a familiar destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Scenery and human here bring a specific characteristic that cannot be seen elsewhere.
In any seasons, Ba Be Lake owns specific beauty.
Pac Ngoi village of the Tay ethnic minority people lies beside the lake.
People mainly use dug-out canoes to travel on the lake.
With such islands, Ba Be Lake is called Ha Long on the mountain.

Local residents live mainly on agricultural production, sometimes catching fish from the lake.
