Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang delivered a remark at the Opening Ceremony of the 11th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies took place in Hanoi on Nov. 21.

According to Tran Luu Quang, Asia-Pacific is heavily affected by natural disasters, catastrophes, and pandemics. Meanwhile, resources for humanitarian and relief activities in the region are limited, which poses an urgent need to strengthen international cooperation in strategic planning, resource mobilization, and capacity building in humanitarian activities, disaster prevention and response.

Responding to the conference's theme, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang proposed that firstly, Governments, international and regional organizations, and relevant parties give higher priority and more resources to humanitarian activities. It is necessary to consider humanitarian work as a common task of the entire society, thereby continuing to promote cooperation at national, bilateral, regional, and global levels.

Secondly, in addition to joint efforts to prevent and resolve the consequences of traditional wars and conflicts, we need to focus more on preventing and responding to non-traditional security challenges such as natural disasters and pandemics.

Thirdly, the international community needs to continue making its best efforts to prevent conflicts and wars, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and promote equitable, sustainable, and inclusive development; ensuring that no nation or community is left behind.

"Humanity and solidarity are the nature and good traditions of the Vietnamese people. Vietnam is willing to contribute most actively and effectively to the international Red Cross and Red Crescent movement,” he said.

The 11th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is held from Nov. 20-23.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Bui Thi Hoa said that Vietnam, a country located in an area that often suffers from the harmful effects of natural disasters, is willing to share its experiences in adapting, living together, transforming nature, responding to epidemics, and moving toward sustainable development. Thereby, Vietnam hopes to contribute to the solidarity and unity of the international Red Cross and Red Crescent movement.

Appreciating the participation and organizational work of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, Maha Barjas Al-Barjas, Vice President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, in charge of the Asia-Pacific region, believes that the Conference opens up an opportunity to promote cooperation, connection and increase friendship among National Societies, thereby contributing to resolving common challenges and promoting the drafting process of humanitarian strategies.
