The shooting attack killed at least two people, included a Turkish diplomat in a restaurant in Ebril, capital of Kurdish region, Iraq.

Turkish diplomat killed in Iraq’s restaurant

Three gunmen entered the restaurant in Ebril, capital of Kurdish autonomous region, Iraq and shot the Turkish envoy and other 2 people on Wednesday. As Kurdish security and intelligence organization’s confirmation, the Turkish diplomat die and other civilians were injuries.


They also shared that the gunmen escaped the restaurant through the back door and the attack were under investigation.


After the death of the Turkish diplomat, Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu said “We are continuing our contacts so that details concerning the issue of the apprehension of the assailants, and what is behind the attack, are brought to light".


Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the shooting was an “atrocious attack against our consulate employee in Ebril” on his post on Twitter.


The Erdogan’s spokesmen also said Turkey will have “the necessary response to those who committed this treacherous attack"


According to France 24, the attack were carried out after Turkey announced to start the “Operation – Claw 2” to fight against “PKK terrorist” in Northern Iraq, PKK was stood for Kurdistan Worker Party which is considered as a terrorist group by not only Turkey, but also the US, EU and UN. Especially, Turkey determined to eliminate PKK base in Northern Iraq.


Turkey had also deployed some military operations in the Kurdish area of Iraq and Syria.
