UN leader hails Vietnam’s contributions to UN system

Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon has spoke of Vietnam’s responsible efforts and contributions at UN forums, including the country’s participation in the UN Human Rights Council during 2014-2016 and peace-keeping operations.

He had talks with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh in Hanoi on May 23rd, during which they agreed to further boost cooperation between the UN and Vietnam.

They emphasised the importance and necessity of adopting a post-2015 Development Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals in September, and reaching a new international agreement on climate change response in December this year.

As one of developing countries affected most by climate change, particularly rising sea level, Vietnam has been active in carrying out drastic measures to cope with the phenomenon, Minh stated.
