UN selects Việt Nam as training site for peacekeeping forces
Việt Nam is among four countries in Southeast Asia selected to become training sites for UN peacekeeping forces, with the first training course to be held in Việt Nam at the end of this year.
The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations under the Ministry of National Defense and the French Defense Attaché Office in Hanoi, under the auspices of the International Organization of La Francophonie in Vietnam, held a discussion on June 25 in Hanoi to help improve the engineering expertise of those from Vietnam’s Engineer Company and Level-2 Field Hospital No.2.
During the discussion, three experienced French experts share their knowledge with Vietnamese trainees
Phung held that it was the practical and precious assistance of France given to Vietnam, contributing to cementing the fruitful bilateral ties between the two countries and demonstrating the two defense ministries’ commitment to realizing the technical agreement on UN peacekeeping cooperation.
To make the discussion successful, Phung suggested the participants be active in exchange and practice in order to improve their understanding to apply creatively to their real work at UN peacekeeping missions and in the field in the future.
During the two-week long discussion, three experienced French experts will share their knowledge with key Vietnamese cadres, servicemen from a mine clearance squad under the Engineer Company and members of the Level-2 Field Hospital No.2.
They will focus on the theory and practice of demining and processing unexploded ordnance (UXO) in line with the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), raising awareness of UXO in the operating environment of UN peacekeeping missions.
The discussion is a good opportunity for the trainees to acquire for more knowledge and learn real lessons in engineering in the context of UN peacekeeping activities in a multinational environment, boost UN peacekeeping cooperation between Vietnam and France in an intensive and practical manner in accordance with the bilateral strategic partnership./.
