Urgent instruction released to fight illegal logging

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued an urgent instruction to localities nationwide

However, many localities have faced massive illegal logging issues such as Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Quang Nam, Nghe An and Kien Giang.

Under the ministry’s instruction, localities have to inspect illegal logging hotspots and strictly deal with violations. Inpiduals and organisations have to be responsible for failing to detect such crimes.

The ministry also requests to tighten control over wood processing units and the check of wood origin at these units. Those which violate the regulations must be closed.

It is important to raise the capacity of forest rangers as well as carry out more sudden checks on their work.

Earlier, local newspapers reported that dozens of rare trees at Dak Lak Province’s Yok Don National Park had been cut down. Police uncovered a major illegal logging case in April.

After that, police arrested Phan Huu Phuong, 48, in Dak Nong Province and eight others were arrested./.
