US Second Lady visits ancient learning edifice in northern Vietnam

(VNF)- Dr. Jill Biden, wife of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, on Monday paid a visit to a time-honored complex dedicated to the country’s learning traditions in Hanoi.

The visit to Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam (Edifice of Letters), believed to be the country’s first-ever university, is part of Dr. Biden’s activities in Vietnam.

Accompanying her is Mai Thi Hanh, spouse of the host country’s State President.

The visit was also joined by Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong, and Nguyen Thi Nguyet Nga, wife of Pham Binh Minh- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

Hanh briefed her visitor on the time-honored history of Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam, where princes and members of the royal families would do their studies.

She also informed Dr. Biden of Vietnam’s tremendous efforts in ensuring Vietnam’s rights and gender equality.

Nga also expressed her heartfelt thanks to the U.S. government for their considerable support in education, and hoped that the two countries will further collaborate in the field as well as in addressing issues related to women’s rights and gender equality.

Dr. Biden then visited an orphanage before leaving Hanoi for Ho Chi Minh City./.
