Traditional Iranian (Persian) art, with its millennia of evolution, embodies the essence of an ancient civilization. The products of traditional Iranian craftsmanship are not just displays of artisanal skill but also narratives of cultural heritage and evolution. A hallmark of traditional Iranian art is the masterful fusion of patterns, motifs, and colors, which is vividly evident in their handicrafts.
To bring Iranian art closer to the Vietnamese audience, an exhibition titled "Colors and Patterns: Journey to Iranian Art" is being held in honor of the 51st anniversary of Vietnam-Iran diplomatic relations (August 4, 1973 - August 4, 2024).
The exhibition consists of 2 display areas. The photo area includes: Lotus motifs at the Persepolis Palace Complex, built under the order of Darius the Great (518 – 465 BC) and continued to be completed by Xerxes I (550 – 486 BC); Calligraphy paintings and photographs; Miniature paintings by the master of contemporary Iranian miniature painting - Mahmoud Farshchian.
The area of handicrafts and fine arts includes about 100 products, representing about 10 types of Iranian art, including: Copper carving (Qalam-zani); Enamel (Minakari); Carpet weaving (Qali bafi); Persian mosaic (Khatam-kari); Turquoise inlay on copper (Firouze-kubi); Fabric printing (Qalam-kari); Embroidery with gold and silver threads (Sermeh-doozi); Handwoven fabrics (Termeh-bafi); Decorative painting on copper (Mes-o-pardaz).
Additionally, visitors have the opportunity to try their hand at writing Persian calligraphy.
The exhibition is open from 8:30-17:00, August 23 - September 8, 2024 at Hanoi Museum.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Vietnam Ali Akbar Nazari said: Cultural exchange is an important area in the Vietnam - Iran relations. In recent years, the two countries have successfully organized many cultural events and activities, such as: Iranian Art Heritage Exhibition at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (July 2022), Iranian Film Week (January 2024). Through introducing Iranian art in Hanoi, the Iranian Embassy in Vietnam hopes to continue to deepen the bilateral relations; contributing to strengthening the two people's affection and appreciation for cultural heritage.
The exhibition introduces to the audience typical examples of ancient Iranian art and traditional handicraft products that are still preserved to this day. Ambassador Ali Akbar Nazari hopes that the exhibition will bring to the Vietnamese public more information and knowledge about the artistic heritage of Iran. Through this, the exhibition acts as a bridge, opening up opportunities for cultural and artistic exchange; contributing to strengthening mutual respect and deepening the friendship between Vietnam and Iran.
