Vietnam and US Strengthen Cooperation in Education and Training

Affirming the special relationship between Vietnam and the US, including cooperation in education, Minister Nguyen Kim Son thanked the US Government and people and the Ambassador for their support. These are timely and valuable supports in terms of medical equipment and vaccines for Vietnam in the fight against the recent Covid-19 pandemic. With the vaccination, Vietnamese students have been able to return to school.
The Minister also thanks the US Government for providing scholarships to Vietnamese students. The VEF program supports more than 500 scholarships to help young Vietnamese talents study in the United States. The Fullbright scholarship program has also supported many Vietnamese to study in the US.

The Minister thanks the Government and people of the United States for their activities to support Vietnam's education. The projects that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) implements in Vietnam have been effective.
The BUILD-IT project in higher education implemented by Arizona State University in the period 2015-2020 also supports the innovation of training programs.
It helps build partnerships between higher education institutions and businesses, innovations university governance in the field of engineering and technology training.

Emphasizing the special education cooperation between the two countries, the Minister mentioned the number of about 30,000 Vietnamese students studying and doing research at American schools and universities.
The universities of the two countries also have close cooperation with many activities, such as: cooperation in training programs, scholar exchange, student exchange, research cooperation.
The establishment of Fulbright University Vietnam (FUV) in 2016 can be considered as a highlight in educational cooperation between the two sides. FUV is considered Vietnam's first non-profit university, following the US model.

The Minister hoped that the US Embassy in Vietnam would support the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to improve the quality of higher education institutions in Vietnam between USAID, the US and the Ministry of Education and Training. He hopes the United States will continue to support the development of Fulbright University Vietnam and hopes to welcome more US professors to work here.
With the cooperation between educational institutions of Vietnam and the United States, the Minister hoped the Ambassador would assist in joint training programs. He hopes to cooperate in training under the project to improve the capacity of lecturers and managers of higher education institutions. This is to meet the requirements of fundamental renovation of education and training in 2019-2030.
The Ministry of Education and Training also wishes to receive support to improve the quality of English teaching in Vietnam; innovation inspection, assessment, and quality assurance; form working groups between scientists of the two countries to exchange and develop capacity.

At the meeting, Marc Knapper emphasized the outstanding results in education cooperation between Vietnam and the US and said: Education cooperation is a success story in the bilateral relationship between the US and Vietnam.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead the Vietnamese delegation to attend the US-ASEAN Special Summit. This event was mentioned by Marc Knapper as a great opportunity to deepen the relationship between the two countries.

The Ambassador said he will make efforts to increase the number of Vietnamese students studying in the United States. The US especially encourages students to study science, technology, and math. They also suggested strengthening cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and private partners in the United States.
“I think the potential for cooperation is unlimited.” The Ambassador said he will make efforts to deepen the cooperation relationship in education, training between the two countries Vietnam and the United States.
