According to Doan Quang Hoan, Director of the Authority of Radio Frequency Management, the event is one of the ITU’s activities organised every three or four years. It aims to review and revise radio regulations, international legal documents on the use and management of the radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbits.

It also focuses on additional allocation of frequency bands for broadband radio communications, satellite communications and modification of regulations related to frequency and satellite orbit management.
