In the last days of the year, the fishing boat of Le Ngoc Tinh, a fisherman in Canh Duong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province docked with more than 1 ton of freshly caught seafood. This trip out to sea, the sea was calm, so the income was quite high, everyone in the boat was excited. However, going to sea is very risky. During last month's trip, his fishing boat broke down in the middle of the sea, at the time when the storm No. 8 entered the Bien Dong Sea. Fortunately, the Coast Guard has provided timely support.

"We are very reassured, our coast guard forces come down to the commune to provide information and support fishermen so that we can safely exploit seafood, raise our families and keep sovereignty over the sea and islands. They also support at sea when it comes to rescue in unexpected circumstances," Le Ngoc Tinh said.

The Coast Guard also regularly organizes training sessions on first aid skills, skills to handle unexpected situations that may occur at sea. To have effective sessions, the Coast Guard has organized to compile full documents with rich content, combining vivid images from stories of real people and real events.

Senior Lieutenant Bui Van Hai, officer of the Coast Guard ship 4036, said: The unit also established working groups to directly meet ship owners and crew members, talk, distribute leaflets, and issue legal manuals, with content that is easy to understand and remember.

"As the Coast Guard, we have always determined that accompanying and rescuing fishermen at sea is an order from the soldier's heart. When we receive the information to rescue fishermen at sea, we will use all means to rescue them as quickly as possible, to bring them back to shore and ensure the safety of their lives and property," Senior Lieutenant Bui Van Hai said.

Performing well in supporting fishermen at sea, the Coast Guard also plays an important role in maintaining security, preventing cross-border smuggling at sea, especially drug crimes.

During the complicated development of the Covid-19, the Coast Guard is also the frontline force on the pandemic prevention front. By many measures to promote and prevent illegal entry and exit, the Coast Guard and fishermen have created a solid defense against the pandemic at sea.

"We have also coordinated with local authorities to provide information, and donate items to prevent and control the Covid-19 pandemic. We still regularly maintain forces at key points at sea to prevent illegal entry, and accompany fishermen in the process of fishing and economic development in the country's seas," said Colonel Nguyen Van Hien, Coast Guard Region 1 Command.

Over the past year, despite being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the program "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen" has been implemented in many localities across the country. The program awarded more than 1000 gifts to fishing families facing difficulties due to the impact of the pandemic, and donated 2000 national flags to fishing boats; donated 140 bicycles to poor students to overcome difficulties, and 5 houses with a value of over VND300 million (US$13,146).

In solidarity with Vietnam's fishermen, the Coast Guard has made an important contribution to strengthening the solidarity of the army and people, love of sea and islands, raise people's awareness and responsibility; maintain and promote the quality of "Uncle Ho's soldier - Coast Guard" in the new era.
