Vietnam Condemns Terrorist Attack at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan

The statement was made on August 31 by Le Thi Thu Hang, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam in reply to a reporter' question about Vietnam's response to the terrorist attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport based in Kabul, Afghanistan on August 26, 2021.

“Vietnam condemns terrorist attacks in all forms, including the terrorist attack that caused serious casualties at Hamid Karzai International Airport on August 26, 2021. We extend our deepest condolences to families of the victims relating to the attack," Hang said.

According to information sources, no Vietnamese citizens have been affected in the foresaid terrorist attack so far, the official added.

Hang also sent her deepest condolences to the families of the victims of these terrorist attacks. The MOFA spokesman also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan to continue to review and carry out the work of protecting citizens.

Earlier, on August 26, two explosions occurred outside Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, where the US and allies were rushing to evacuate their citizens and Afghan civilians. Thirteen American soldiers, including 10 Marines, were killed. At least 18 other soldiers of the country were injured.

In addition, 169 Afghans were also killed. ISIS-K, an offshoot of the Islamic State (IS) in Afghanistan, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The US military on August 28 used drones to target a branch of the Islamic State group (IS) in the eastern province of Nangarhar in response to the above terrorist attack.
