At the meeting, Vietnam affirmed its commitment to closely coordinate with Laos and other ASEAN countries for the overall success of the summits, promoting important issues such as regional connectivity, strategic self-reliance and sustainable development.

With the theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience”, these summits are forum for leaders to discuss and make strategic decisions on important issues facing ASEAN in particular and the region in general. Notable topics include ASEAN’s development orientation in the next 20 years, enhancement of strategic autonomy and resilience, promotion of ASEAN’s central role, and regional connectivity.

The Lao chair has made thorough and early preparations for organization, security, protocol and logistics. More than 20 activities are expected to take place at the Lao National Convention Center from October 8-11, with the participation of more than 2,000 delegates from ASEAN countries, Timor-Leste, ASEAN partners and international and regional organizations.

It is expected that more than 80 documents will be reviewed and approved by the leaders, focusing on important issues such as responding to climate change, developing sustainable agriculture, connecting supply chains, fighting cybercrime, developing artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet and the heads of the SOMs of the countries highly appreciated Laos' preparations in all aspects, affirming that they will closely coordinate with the Chair country and actively contribute to the overall success of the conferences. The delegates also discussed and assessed the implementation of ASEAN's initiatives and cooperation priorities in 2024, building the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, implementing the Roadmap to support Timor-Leste to become a full member of ASEAN, strengthening ASEAN's external relations and many other issues of common concern.

It is expected that the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the 28th ASEAN Political-Security Community Council (APSC) Meeting and the 35th ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) Meeting will take place on October 8 to review and complete preparations for the ASEAN summits, as well as discuss issues of common concern.

On the morning of October 8, at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Sonexay Siphandone - ASEAN Chair 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related Summits in Vientiane (Laos) from October 8-11. The Vietnamese delegatio, ready to contribute and make every effort for the common success, will attend these Summits, conveying important messages about ASEAN and its future.
