ASEAN to Enhance Military Intelligence Cooperation for Regional Peace and Security

ASEAN needs to continue to cooperate to address the emerging challenges in geopolitics, military and socio-economy that are old and new security threats and challenges, directly and indirectly affecting peace, stability and development of the region, Vietnamplus reported.
With the theme “ASEAN: Together for Peace, Security and Resilience”, the meeting provided a platform for ASEAN military intelligence officials to exchange views on enhancing cooperation in the intelligence sector. AMIM-21 aimed to contribute to regional defense collaboration, and safeguarding peace, stability, and resilience in the region, in line with the common views and spirit of the ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Meeting, the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting and related meeting held this year.
This meeting focused on discussing and exchanging views on the outstanding situation in the region, cooperation between the ASEAN member countries in the military/defense framework, especially in the intelligence sector, emphasizing the importance of specialized cooperation mechanisms such as the ASEAN Junior Intelligence Interaction Program (AJIIP), ASEAN Our Eyes (AOE), and ASEAN Military Intelligence Community (AMIC).
One of the highlights of the event was the adoption of a draft joint statement for the 21st ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Meeting, which will serve as a foundation for promoting ASEAN military cooperation.
The delegates agreed to continue to enhance capacity, mutual trust in responding to security challenges, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, and socio-economic development in the region. The same day, the 14th ASEAN Military Operations Meeting (AMOM-14) was also held in Vientiane.
