Saigon Port in HCM City ranked 26^th while Hai Phong Port was placed 33^rd in the list of the biggest container ports in the world, the hubs that keep global trade moving. The period of measuring dates is from 2016 to 2020.

Saigon Port in the seaport system of Vietnam's maritime industry is a port with the leading throughput and handling capacity of the country, according to Saigon Port JSC.

With a history of more than 150 years and having its outstanding achievements in supporting the country’s economic development, Saigon Port was awarded Hero of Labor Order by the State President for outstanding achievements from 1986 to 1995, contributing a part to the work of building socialism and defending country.

Operating for a large region including HCM City, surrounding areas and Mekong Delta with a total annual cargo throughput more than 10 million tonnes, Saigon Port has an important role and mission serving for the import and export needs and the economic development in general for all Southern region of the country.

Under the State’s policy and the authorities, Saigon Port has received support from the authorities and community to make favorable conditions for the port to develop further and maintain its operating role in the region and the world.

Saigon Port consists of a network of several smaller ports located around the outskirts of HCM City. Some of the most prominent container terminals of this port include the Cai Mep terminal which is a deep-water terminal suitable for both American and Australian freight ships, as well as the Cat Lai container terminal which handles only freight liners that make use of low-depth channels like many Asian liners, VOV said.

The Port of Hai Phong makes up the busiest and largest container port in northern Vietnam. Built with high safety standards, the port features a range of modern equipment which makes it suitable for both domestic and international trade and cargo transport.

It consists of three major terminals, including Chua Ve Terminal, Tan Vu Terminal, and Hoang Dieu Terminal.

The infrastructure of the northern port includes 21 berths, 39 portal cranes, eight gantry cranes, 33 wheel gantry cranes, 10 rubber-tired gantries, and about 140 container tractors and forklifts.
