Vietnam - EU Cooperate for Clean Environment
On May 12, in celebration of Europe Day in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU Delegation, and Quang Ninh Province organized a cleanup of the marine environment in the Bai Chay area and Ha Long Bay. Domestic and international delegates paid close attention and attended the event in large numbers.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that marine environmental protection faces numerous challenges, including the risk of pollution, littering, and untreated wastewater, and that public awareness of preserving and protecting the marine environment is not high.

To address these challenges, in addition to the efforts of the entire political system, ministries, branches, and localities, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently actively promoted cooperation with other countries and international organizations on environmental protection and climate change response, added the official.
The EU and its member countries have made significant contributions to environmental preservation and adaptation to global climate change. The EU and its member countries supported Vietnam with development cooperation initiatives on climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, forest protection, and waste management.
According to Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, the Vietnam - EU Day event in Ha Long is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to raise awareness among the business community and the general public about responsible behavior toward the environment, natural ecosystems in general, and the marine environment in particular, to prevent pollution and degradation of the marine environment.

Simultaneously, the activity promotes mutual understanding and cooperation between Quang Ninh province and the EU Delegation and Embassies of EU countries in Hanoi, thereby actively contributing to Vietnam's well-developed comprehensive partnership and cooperation with the EU. The event will additionally convey the message "Joining hands to preserve and protect a green, clean, and beautiful environment for future generations."
Within the framework of the event, delegates participated in trash collection activities at Bai Chay Beach and Ha Long Bay.
In response to climate change, the EU and its member nations have recently actively supported Vietnam through development cooperation initiatives on climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, forest protection, and waste disposal. Vietnam has established a Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) with the International Partners Group (IPG) with the EU's support and active promotion, thereby mobilizing financial resources and technology to support Vietnam in the clean energy transition process, leading to the development of a green, circular, and environmentally sustainable economy. |
