At the seminar promoting exports through e-commerce platforms, organized by Vietnam Trade and Industry Review on October 19, Nguyen Thanh Duong, deputy director of the Center for Application of Information Technology and Digital Transformation in Trade Promotion, said the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency is coordinating with the e-commerce platform Alibaba.com to build and develop Vietnam Pavilion.
The purpose of the pavilion is to introduce Vietnamese products to international customers as well as promote the export of Vietnamese goods to the world.
Vietnam's national pavilion on Alibaba e-commerce platform will gather 100 typical businesses participating in cross-border e-commerce, helping promote Vietnamese brands through international markets, strengthening trade between international buyers and sellers in Vietnam.
Vietnam pavilion at e-commerce platform Alibaba.com also helps raise awareness about the product quality of Vietnamese businesses to international customers.
After that, the Trade Promotion Agency will focus on improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese businesses on the e-commerce platform Alibaba.com through training and coaching activities.
Alibaba e-commerce platform is considered a potential e-commerce platform with more than 260 million users, along with 47 million buyers and businesses in 200 countries and territories. Therefore, this is a potential platform for businesses that intend to export, seek new markets, and new products through the e-commerce platform. |
Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is coordinating with Alibaba to draft a set of criteria to select businesses. Basically, this set of criteria will include 14 criteria in 5 groups.
Alibaba representative said that the first group requires businesses or sellers to have a pavilion on Alibaba.com. The second group is Vietnamese businesses providing products made in Vietnam. The third group focuses on factors of reputation and quality.

The fourth group will focus on businesses with e-commerce capabilities.
With this group, Alibaba will focus on businesses that are committed to having personnel to operate their pavilion effectively. Businesses will ensure that they regularly post articles, post product images or respond to questions about the goods.
The last group has criteria for incentives and support.
The Trade Promotion Agency and Alibaba also clearly identified the Vietnam national pavilion as a place to support businesses in doing business and promoting exports.
Therfore, Alibaba also needs incentives and support for businesses with financial or scale limitations, mainly targeting small and micro businesses, to help them increase their competitiveness.
Alibaba also supports incentives for businesses that have products with real export potential on the e-commerce platform such as agricultural products, furniture or handicrafts.
These criteria are expected to be announced in November 2023.
Nguyen Thi Phuong Uyen, marketing director of Alibaba.com (Vietnam) said that Vietnamese businesses participating in e-commerce platforms and Alibaba.com particularly have the advantage of competitive prices and diverse product designs.
The quality of Vietnamese products is not inferior to other suppliers that existed on Alibaba.com for more than 23 years.
An advantage for Vietnamese businesses to confidently boost exports is the benefits from free trade agreements that Vietnam signed.
In particular, the advantage of low or zero import and export taxes for countries like the UK or EU will be a superior competitive advantage compared to other suppliers that Vietnamese businesses should take advantage of.
