Vietnam a priority in China's policy of neighborhood diplomacy: Premier

China consistently considers its relationship with Vietnam a priority in its policy of neighborhood diplomacy, said Chinese Premier Li Qiang at a meeting with visiting Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam in Beijing on August 19.

Welcoming Lam on his first state visit to China, which is also his first overseas trip in his new role as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, Li said that the visit reflects the high importance and top priority that the Vietnamese Party and State place on the bilateral relationship.

He believed it will provide a strong impetus for the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the Vietnam-China community with a shared future to enter a new phase with more substantive outcomes.

The Chinese Party and Government remain steadfast in supporting Vietnam to comprehensively promote its reform, accelerate industrialisation and modernisation, and successfully build socialism suited to Vietnam's conditions, he said.

Lam, for his part, stressed that his visit aims to build upon the high regard that the Party and State, and generations of leaders of Vietnam, including late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, have given to the Vietnam-China relationship.

Vietnam always considers the development of friendly neighborliness and comprehensive cooperation with China a consistent policy, a strategic choice, and a top priority in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of external relations, he said.

The country will continue upholding the significant achievements and common perceptions reached by high-ranking leaders of both sides to elevate the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and build the Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.

Lam congratulated China on its great achievements in reform and opening-up, the successful realization of the first centenary goal and the completion of over 300 comprehensive reform measures adopted at the third plenary session of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and the successful organization of the third plenum of the 20th CPC Central Committee.

Both sides expressed pleasure that the relationship between the two Parties and countries has reached a historic development to the most intensive, comprehensive and substantive level ever seen, with significant results such as reinforced political trust, elevated relationship, regularly maintained exchanges and contact at all levels, thriving trade collaboration, strongly growing Chinese investments in Vietnam, strong tourism recovery, and enhanced locality-to-locality cooperation and people-to-people exchange.

Holding that the two countries boast huge potential for cooperation, the two leaders agreed to make joint efforts to bolster political and economic confidence, effectively build the Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, taking the bilateral ties to a new development period in the direction of the “six major orientations”, maintain regular contact at all levels, and promote exchanges and cooperation via Party, Government, National Assembly/National People’s Congress, and Fatherland Front/People's Political Consultative Conference channels.

They concurred to expand cooperation in such key areas as foreign affairs, defense and security, enhance substantive collaboration to carve out further achievements, step up locality-to-locality connection and people-to-people exchange, well arrange activities to mark the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations, consolidate a solid social foundation, create new motives for the development of the bilateral ties, and maintain close coordination and cooperation as well as support each other at multilateral forums and mechanisms.

Party General Secretary and President Lam welcomed China’s engagement in developing three standard-gauge railway projects that connect the two nations, the Vientiane – Vung Ang railway, and the metro system in Hanoi. He went on to ask China to continue opening up its market for high-quality farm produce from Vietnam, and create favorable conditions for the country to set up its Consulate General in Chongqing, and trade promotion offices in China.

He also suggested China accelerate its large-scale and high-quality investment projects with modern technologies in Vietnam, soon pilot smart border gates, consider cooperation in payment in local currencies, and step up collaboration across the areas of science-technology, innovation, green transition, digital transformation and high-tech agriculture, cited VNA.

Lam also said that he hopes the two sides will boost cooperation in education, culture, tourism, and natural disaster prevention and mitigation, rescue and urgent response.

Agreeing with Lam, Li held that the two countries need to stay consistent with their cooperation structure and win-win development, expressed his readiness to maintain exchanges at all levels, promote the role of the China – Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation in enhancing the bilateral relations following the “six major orientations”, improve rail connection between Vietnam and Europe via China, accelerate the feasibility study of the Lao Cai – Hanoi - Hai Phong railway, make planning for the Dong Dang – Hanoi, and Mong Cai – Ha Long – Hai Phong railways, and facilitate Vietnamese high-quality agro-fishery products’ entry into China.

He suggested both sides continue enhancing their neighborliness and friendship, bolstering people-to-people exchange, implementing people’s livelihood projects, working together in the fields of vocational training, and promoting the role of the Vietnam – China Friendship Palace. He laid stress on the persistence of genuine multilateralism, and open regionalism, adding China stands ready for enhanced cooperation at multilateral forums.

The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern. They agreed to jointly control and satisfactorily settle disagreements, maintain peace and stability at sea, and consolidate a favorable environment for the development of each nation.

Lam suggested the two countries seriously carry out the high-level common perceptions, and the Vietnam-China agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues, respect international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982 UNCLOS), respect each other’s legitimate rights and interests, promote the efficacy of the negotiation mechanisms on the sea-related issues, satisfactorily handle issues relating to fishing vessels and fishermen, well control the situation at sea, and maintain the stable, positive development momentum of the bilateral ties, as well as peace and stability in the region.

Vietnam-Russia trade value skyrockets nearly 50% in seven months

Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Russia hit US$2.74 billion in the past seven months, marking a remarkable increase of 45.5% year on year.

According to the Vietnamese Trade Office in Russia, the reviewed period witnessed Vietnamese exports to Russia reach US$1.36 billion, rising by 46% compared to the same period last year.

Many key Vietnamese products continued recording high export growth, with iron and steel products soaring by 166% to US$697.9 million. They were followed by confectionery and cereal products (US$18.1 million, up 116%); seafood (US$116.7 million, up 105%); and textiles and garments (US$458.9 million, up 95.7%).

Vietnamese imports from the Russian market totaled US$1.38 billion during the January - July period, marking an annual increase of 45%. Fertilizers topped the list with import value of US$165.5 million, up 325%, according to VOV.

Coal, chemicals, paper, and automobile spare parts and components saw rises of 46.4%, 83.8%, 173.6%, 162% to US$657 million, US$54.1 million, US$6.6 million, and US$16.7 million, respectively.

Bilateral economic-trade ties have developed positively, largely owing to the enforcement of the Vietnam- Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Free Trade Agreement (VN-EAEU FTA), many experts said.

To boost trade with Russia, the Vietnamese Trade Office has helped hold regular exchanges connecting Vietnamese and Russian businesses, providing them with up-to-date information about market trends and consumer tastes, supporting them in tackling obstacles, and participating in exhibitions in Russia.

Vietnam to commemorate 50 years of reunification with parade and cultural events

As Vietnam approaches the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification, plans are underway for a grand parade and march in Ho Chi Minh City, involving thousands of participants from the armed forces and civilian contingents.

The 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country will feature a grand parade and march, including 34 contingents from the armed forces and 11 civilian contingents.

The Central Steering Committee for the Commemoration of Major National Holidays and Historic Events for the 2023-2025 period recently held a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

Permanent member of the Party Secretariat, Luong Cuong, noted that the Central Commission for Popularization and Education has issued guidelines for organizing activities to commemorate major national holidays and historic events over the next three years.

Among these are three significant events: the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory (already commemorated), the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification, and the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, reported VNN.

Recently, the Central Steering Committee successfully organized five major activities, particularly the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, which included nearly 70 related events, leaving a profound impression on the people of Vietnam and international friends.

According to Luong Cuong, the Central Steering Committee has drawn valuable lessons, gained good experiences, and identified effective methods, while also addressing limitations to continue leading, directing, and successfully organizing upcoming major national events.

In 2024, two important events are planned: the 70th anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the All-People National Defense Festival. The Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and Hanoi are actively preparing for these events.

In 2025, five major anniversaries will be commemorated, including the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the 135th birthday of beloved President Ho Chi Minh, the 80th anniversary of the tradition of the Vietnam People's Public Security Forces, and the 20th anniversary of the All-People Movement for National Security Protection. Most notably, the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, will be celebrated.

At the meeting, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense reported on the preparations for the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Phan Van Mai, stated that the anniversary celebration will include a grand parade and march, with 34 contingents from the armed forces and 11 civilian contingents, involving a total of 11,220 participants. The city will also organize cultural, artistic, and sporting events, as well as launch patriotic emulation movements.

Head of the Commission for Popularization and Education, Nguyen Trong Nghia, emphasized that the time remaining to prepare for these national-level commemorations is limited, and the workload is extensive.

Regarding the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification, Nghia stressed that beyond the purpose of widespread historical education and reinforcing public confidence, the commemoration should contribute to creating a favorable socio-political atmosphere, motivating the entire Party, military, and people.

The Politburo and the Secretariat have set high standards for organizing the commemorative activities, focusing on large-scale Central-level events that should not only express gratitude and serve as political-ideological education but also be innovative, engaging, practical, safe, and economical, with the public at the center.

The Central Steering Committee urged Ho Chi Minh City to quickly develop and complete the comprehensive plan for the commemorative activities by the end of August. Relevant agencies and units should focus on preparing for the successful organization of the central-level events.

Da Lat named most affordable tourist destination for upcoming holiday

With an average room rate of 1.45 million VND (58 USD), Da Lat has been named the destination in Vietnam that has offered the most competitive room rates during the last two months.

With several long weekends and holidays in August and September across Asia, including National Day on September 2 in Vietnam, Agoda highlighted some of the most popular Asian tourist destinations to enjoy Agoda’s great value deals.

Da Lat took over Hue, which came out on top of the cheapest destinations ranking released in April.

A cool climate and beautiful landscapes make Da Lat a popular destination in Vietnam, Agoda said. The destinations with the cheapest average accommodation rates for August 15 to September 30 across nine Asian markets are Hat Yai in Thailand, Yogyakarta in Indonesia, Kuching in Malaysia, Siargao Island in the Philippines, Da Lat in Vietnam, Narita in Japan, Goa in India, Taichung in Taiwan, and Busan in the Republic of Korea.

Despite offering the lowest average room rates, these destinations offer an abundance of experiences that truly allow travelers to see the world for less.

In the latest report, Booking.com also revealed that leveraging the extended holidays, Vietnamese travelers are seeking a blend of relaxation and exploration.

Da Lat, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and charming French colonial architecture, retains its top spot for the second consecutive year. This serene escape offers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Booking.com also found that Sa Pa is among the destinations that travelers most want to visit during the holiday.

The highlands town of Sa Pa, renowned for its refreshing mountain air and picturesque landscapes, is ranked ninth on the list.

Beach destinations such as Da Nang, Vung Tau and Nha Trang continue to be popular among Vietnamese travelers looking to soak up some summer sun.

Notably, Phan Thiet has entered the top ten this year, thanks to the new Dau Giay – Phan Thiet expressway, significantly reducing travel time from Ho Chi Minh City.

Tourist hotspots like HCM City, Hoi An, Hanoi and Hue also make the list, offering a mix of historical and cultural attractions to travelers.

According to Booking.com, with Vietnamese travelers seeking quick getaways, short-haul international destinations are gaining popularity.

The Asia Pacific region is the top choice, with all 10 of the most searched international destinations located here. While Bangkok is the most sought-after city, the vibrant cultures, exciting shopping experiences and delectable cuisines of other Asian cities including Tokyo, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong are also captivating Vietnamese for this final long weekend of the year.

The National Day, which falls on September 2, is among the biggest holidays in the country. This year, laborers have four days off, which should bolster the tourism sector.

Documentary film on Son Doong cave nominated for 2024 Emmy Award

A documentary filmed by the BBC titled Planet Earth III highlighting the majestic Son Doong Cave in Vietnam’s central Quang Binh province has received nominations at the Emmy Awards 2024.

BBC's Planet Earth III earned five nominations at the 76th Emmy Awards 2024, with two going to episode 6: "Extremes".

The episode, which delves into the planet's most extreme environments, features an array of stunning visuals of Vietnam’s renowned cave systems.

Filmed over the course of three weeks in early 2022 with the support of Oxalis Adventure, the leading adventure tour operator in the country, the crew braved challenging conditions to capture the awe-inspiring beauty of Son Doong Cave, En Cave, Va Cave, and Nuoc Nut Cave, cited VOV.

Son Doong, located in the heart of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“Extremes” was nominated for “Outstanding Cinematography For A Nonfiction Program”, which highlights the team's exceptional skill in overcoming formidable challenges to create breathtaking and impactful cinematography. This is along with nomination for Outstanding Music Composition For A Documentary Series Or Special (Original Dramatic Score), which recognizes excellence in creating original and powerful music that enhances the storytelling in documentaries.

Winners of the 76th Emmy Awards 2024 will be announced on September 15 on the American television network ABC.

The film is expected to help promote Vietnamese tourism, as well as Quang Binh in particular, thereby attracting more international tourists and creating many new opportunities to receive major projects from major global media companies.

Son Doong Cave is the world's largest cave which is located in the core area of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. It boasts the largest limestone mountain system in Southeast Asia, and has a large limestone cave system.

From 1990 to 2022, more than 450 large and small caves have been explored by the British-Vietnamese cave expert team led by Howard Limbert.

Son Doong Cave was discovered by a local man named Ho Khanh in 1990 and then explored by British-Vietnamese cave experts between 2009 and 2010.
