Vietnam treasures cooperative ties with EU and its members: PM
Vietnam always treasures cooperative ties with the European Union (EU) and its member states, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told President of the European Council (EC) Charles Michel at their meeting on October 10 on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane, Laos.
Both leaders expressed their satisfaction with the robust, intensive and extensive development of the relationship between Vietnam and the EU, particularly in economy, trade, and investment cooperation since the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) came into effect in 2020, cited VNA.
They agreed to further expand and deepen the bilateral cooperation in line with its potential, increase high-level exchanges and meetings, and remove existing obstacles and barriers to trade and investment, and promote effective cooperation in such emerging areas as digital economy, artificial intelligence, innovation, green transition, and climate change response.
Chinh urged the EU to continue encouraging remaining member states to swiftly ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and lift yellow card warning against Vietnam’s seafood exports.
On this occasion, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the EU for providing 650,000 EUR in humanitarian aid to help Vietnam overcome the consequences of recent Typhoon Yagi.
Hailing Vietnam as a key partner in the EU’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, Michel affirmed the EU’s commitment to speed up the EVIPA ratification. He also indicated the EU’s positive consideration of lifting the yellow card against Vietnam’s seafood exports and pledged continued support for Vietnam’s effective implementation of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) framework.
Regarding global issues, both sides underscored the importance of adhering to international law and the United Nations Charter, and close coordination at global and regional multilateral forums.
Michel expressed the EU's desire to join hands with Vietnam and other ASEAN members to further deepen the EU - ASEAN partnership and affirmed its support for ASEAN’s central role and common stance on regional issues, especially the East Sea and Myanmar-related matters.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea, settling disputes by peaceful measures in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), contributing to peace, stability and common prosperity in the region and the world.
Vietnam and India promote science - technology cooperation
A meeting held between Vietnam and India took place on October 9 at the headquarters of the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology in New Delhi to promote bilateral relations in general and bilateral cooperation in science and technology in particular.
Addressing the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai reiterated the long-standing traditional relationship between both sides, stressing that joint ties have always been maintained at a very high level of trust recently demonstrated through the State visit to India by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, as well as the meeting between Party General Secretary and State President of Vietnam To Lam and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York.
He expressed hope that the two countries’ relationship would continue to be strengthened deeply and comprehensively in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor ecosystem, financial innovation and digital payments, space technology, renewable energy, biotechnology, disaster resilience technology, as well as in using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, according to VOV.

For his part, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology of India Prof. Abhay Karandikar emphasized that the two countries now have many opportunities to promote science and technology linkages.
He suggested that the two sides further strengthen cooperation in science and technology, particularly as previous cooperation efforts have been made through the ASEAN partnership, and it is the right time now to resume joint activities.
Scientific researchers of both countries are able to cooperate with each other in various areas such as digital technology, AI, cybersecurity, quantum, green energy, and biotechnology, he concluded.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Hai and Secretary Karandikar agreed to organize more working sessions at different levels to quickly move towards signing practical agreements between the two sides.
Vietnam, UK vow to combat human trafficking, illegal migration
The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) supports and commits to cooperating with the UK side to fight human trafficking and illegal migration, Minister of Public Security Sen. Lieut. Gen. Luong Tam Quang told Secretary of State for the Home Department Yvette Cooper in their phone talks on October 10.
Quang added that the MPS is ready to share experiences with the UK law enforcement agencies in the fight against organized crimes, VNA reported.

Hailing the progress of the bilateral cooperative ties both bilaterally and multilaterally since the establishment of a strategic partnership in 2010, he said the MPS and the UK Home Office have been working closely together in combating crimes, migration, border control management, and the fight against human trafficking and illegal migration. They have regularly shared information and effectively implemented a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on migration issues between the Vietnamese and UK Governments, as well as another MoU on cooperation in fighting human trafficking crime.
Looking ahead, both sides agreed to continue realizing the signed cooperation documents, particularly the memoranda of understanding on combating human trafficking crime, sharing immigration information, and migration issues. They also committed to continuing to implement the Joint Declaration on cooperation in migration, immigration management, and combating human trafficking and illegal migration.
To further strengthen their partnership, both sides will facilitate the exchange of delegations at all levels to share information and experiences in fighting human trafficking and illegal migration. Additionally, they will collaborate in carrying out programs to prevent illegal migration, increase training courses aimed at improving technical and language skills for immigration management and illegal migration combat, and address technology-related crimes, fraud, financial and banking crimes, and money laundering.
Vietnam Town Nakhon Phanom inaugurated in Thailand
The welcome gate of Vietnam Town Nakhon Phanom was unveiled at a ceremony held in Nakhon Phanom province, northern Thailand, on October 10, attracting the participation of around 1,000 overseas Vietnamese.
In her speech, Phanom Ranida Laungthitisakul, acting governor of Nakhon Phanom province, noted that the inauguration marked the friendly relations that exist between Thailand and Vietnam, and that the site is expected to attract more tourists to the locality, helping to boost economic development.
Work on the project initially began on December 11, 2023, with the local government contributing THB490,000 and Vietnamese expatriates THB1.3 million to the construction, VOV reported.

In December 2023, the Vietnam Town in Thailand's northeastern Udon Thani province, the first in Thailand and the world, was inaugurated, acting as a bridge to further promote the ties between the two countries.
Vietnam Town is located in the Vietnamese market area in the city downtown, with 99% of residents being of Vietnamese origin. Along with the support of the local administration and Vietnamese in Thailand, the project has received sponsorship from a number of domestic Vietnamese firms.
South Korea supports Vietnam and ASEAN's stance on East Sea
South Korea supports Vietnam and ASEAN's stance on the East Sea issue, particularly the adherence to international law and settlement of disputes through peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
President Yoon Suk-yeol made the above statement at his meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Vientiane, Laos on October 10.
Yoon spoke highly of Vietnam's role as the coordinator for the ASEAN-South Korea relations for 2021-2024 as well as its active support for the elevation of the ASEAN-South Korea ties to comprehensive strategic partnership.
Pham, for his part, reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently advocates the peace and denuclearization process on the Korean peninsula and stands ready to act as a bridge to promote dialogues between relevant sides, contributing to peace, stability and cooperation in the region.
Both Pham and Yoon, who are now in Laos to attend a series of ASEAN Summits, agreed to continue close coordination at multilateral forums and work together to make active and responsible contributions to addressing common issues in the region and the world.
On bilateral cooperation, the two leaders reiterated their determination to continue deepening and enriching the contents of the Vietnam-South Korea comprehensive strategic partnership, cited VGP.

Both sides agreed to increase high-level exchanges and contacts; promote cooperation in the fields of defense, security, economy and trade while launching cooperation in new and potential fronts like science and technology, innovation, research and development.
Prime Minister Pham affirmed Vietnam will continue creating favorable conditions for Korean investors to do long-term business in Vietnam, calling on the Korean side to continue opening up the market for Vietnamese goods, especially farm produce.
He suggested South Korea continue preferential loans for Vietnam's mega infrastructure projects such as railway and expressway projects.
Pham took the occasion to extend sincere thanks to the Government and people of South Korea for providing US$2 million to help Vietnam overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi, saying that the move indicates the friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
He also conveyed his invitation to Korean Prime Minister Han Duck Soo to pay an official visit to Vietnam and attend the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) summit, scheduled to take place in Vietnam in 2025.
President Yoon reassured South Korea attaches importance to the relations with Vietnam, calling on Vietnam to create favorable conditions for Korean investors to participate in infrastructure, urban development, energy and LGN projects in the Southeast Asian nation.
He promised to facilitate market access for Vietnamese goods.
