Vietnam Promotes Information Exchange, Other Friendly Diplomatic Activities with Venezuela

The Vietnam-Venezuela Friendship Association held the Conference summarizing activities in 2022 and expected operation direction in 2023 on December 29 in Hanoi. This conference has agreed to organize periodical information on the situation in Venezuela; strengthen friendship and cultural exchange activities with the Venezuelan people; invite businesses and training institutions to join the Association.

Overcoming difficulties, deploying solidarity activities with Venezuela

At the Conference, the delegates listened to the draft report summarizing activities in 2022 and the expected direction of activities in 2023. According to this document, in 2022, Vietnam-Venezuela relations will continue to be promoted in various fields. Vietnam and Venezuela will continue to coordinate effectively and support each other at multilateral forums as well as at international organizations.

Regarding relations between political parties, our Party has a friendly relationship and good cooperation with the ruling United Socialist Party (PSUV) and a traditional friendship with the Communist Party of Venezuela (PVC). These organizations regularly exchange letters, or emails, and hold online meetings to update each country's situation. In terms of trade and investment relations, Vietnam and Venezuela have not yet reached their potential.

Although in the first half of the year the Association was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Vietnam - Venezuela Friendship Association still tried to implement activities that showed the spirit of solidarity, friendship, and cooperation.

The Association has closely followed the foreign policy of the Party and State of the two countries and led the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations to carry out its work. It has actively developed the Association's 2022 work plan in accordance with the general situation of the world, the region, and the particular situation of the two countries. The association was simultaneously weighing its limited resources.

In the second half of 2022, when the epidemic was well controlled, all activities gradually return to normal. This is when the Association made efforts to quickly restore exchange, and solidarity activities. It also connected with partners, important figures, and other organizations, namely: leaders of the Association; Government officials, and people's organizations of Venezuela. This organization also organized a meeting program on the occasion of the anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Leaders of the Association deeply understand the situation in Venezuela, and actively direct and participate in the activities of partners. In particular, the Association's leaders actively participated in information-sharing activities.

The association closely and effectively contacts and coordinates with the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela in receiving Government delegations and organizing friendly meetings.

Regarding the work direction in 2023, the Vietnam - Venezuela Friendship Association will continue to closely follow the situation, guidelines, and guidelines of the Party and State to carry out activities: expanding political contacts. It will also continue to carry out activities to enhance understanding and friendship; organize activities on the occasion of anniversaries related to the revolution, independence day of Venezuela, and diplomatic relations of the two countries. The association will strengthen information and propaganda work on the situation in Venezuela. It will connect and implement cooperation activities with new partners, and study the possibility of organizing the III Congress of the Association.

Enhance information and cultural exchange

At the Conference, the delegates agreed with the draft report and made many comments. Specifically, the delegates proposed to strengthen the provision of official and updated information on the situation of Venezuela in particular and Latin America in general. They believe that it is necessary to promote connections and cultural exchanges between students and lecturers from the universities of the two countries. It is necessary to invite representatives of leaders of training schools, enterprises, and professional associations to join the Association's Executive Committee, thereby enhancing solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive cooperation in the fields of economy and trade.

Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Thao, President of the Vietnam - Venezuela Friendship Association, suggested that the Secretariat receive the opinions of the delegates to complete the final report in 2022 and the proposed approach regarding the operating direction in 2023.

To promote the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Venezuela, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Thao agreed with the proposal to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize periodic information sessions on the situation of Latin America in general and Venezuela in particular. These events will be held every 6 months for the Vietnam - Venezuela Friendship Association and other friendship associations. The association will consider establishing a Vietnam-Latin America Friendship House or a forum for propagating friendship with Latin America to connect and share information on the situation in this region.

In order to prepare personnel for the III Congress of the Association, Thao suggested that the Secretariat of the Association draft a document inviting representatives of a number of training institutes, organizations that have a friendly tie with Venezuela, especially businesses, and professional associations to join the Association's Executive Committee.

Specific activities of the Vietnam - Venezuela Friendship Association are expected to be implemented in 2023:

Carry out programs to celebrate the two countries' traditional history, independence day, and current events; coordinate with the Embassy of Venezuela to organize, participate in and respond to activities and events.

Organize Friendship Meetings, display paintings and photos about Venezuelan culture, and publish articles on Venezuelan culture on Vietnamese press channels.

Sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Venezuela - Vietnam Friendship House.

Organize an information exchange about Venezuela for a number of interested representatives of agencies, organizations, businesses, and the press; establish a narrow information exchange mechanism for leaders of the Association and the Americas Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Develop a plan to organize the III Congress of the Association.
