Vietnam and the UAE established diplomatic relations in 1993, according to the minister, and the two nations have maintained beneficial cooperation since then.

According to VietNamPlus, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The went on to say that the UAE is currently Vietnam's largest commercial partner in the Middle East, as well as one of the top ten importers of Vietnamese goods in the globe.

He added that two UAE airlines have commenced services in Vietnam, and a UAE business has formed a joint venture with a Vietnamese partner to establish a deep-water port in Ho Chi Minh City.

The minister praised the ambassador for his efforts to promote bilateral transportation cooperation and proposed that the diplomat continue his efforts to improve aviation and navigation cooperation, as well as expand it to include transportation infrastructure.

The minister, who briefed the ambassador on significant transportation infrastructure projects in HCM City, urged UAE companies to invest in such projects in Vietnam.

"In the next 5 years, Vietnam will accelerate the construction of infrastructure to make major breakthroughs in roads, airports and seaports. In which, there are many big projects such as the construction of 3,000km of highways, construction and investment of phase 1 of Long Thanh international airport project, research and expansion of Noi Bai airport, upgrading of a major airport in Hanoi along with a number of large seaports. I hope that UAE investors will participate in investing in infrastructure projects to develop transport infrastructure in Vietnam," said Minister Nguyen Van The, according to Bao Giao thong.

The ambassador emphasized his wish for more transportation collaboration between the two nations' businesses and requested that the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport encourage local businesses to participate in the UEA's "World Logistics Passport" initiative.

This is an initiative announced by the UAE Ministry of Economy and officially introduced at the 50th Davos World Economic Forum, Switzerland in January 2020, with the participation of many countries around the world, including Vietnam.

“This initiative helps promote Vietnam-UAE trade and facilitate businesses. Businesses participating in the initiative will bring commercial benefits to both sides," said Ambassador Obaid Saeed Obaid Bintaresh Al Dhaheri.

Minister Nguyen Van The said that he supports the above initiative and will widely introduce it to the business community in Vietnam, especially large enterprises in the transportation industry; at the same time, believe that there are many businesses interested and participating in this initiative.

At the meeting, Ambassador Obaid Saeed Obaid Bintaresh Al Dhaheri also raised the issue of the regulation of COVID-19 testing by PCR for flight crews from UAE to Vietnam, affecting aviation operations from UAE to Vietnam.

According to Minister Nguyen Van The and Ambassador Obaid Saeed Obaid Bintaresh Al Dhaheri, only rapid testing for COVID-19 should be carried out on flight crews from the UAE upon arrival in Vietnam, instead of the current regulations on testing by PCR method. However, the Ministry of Health must approve this matter in order for it to be practiced.

Minister The vowed to promote the project among Vietnamese businesses, particularly those in the transportation industry.
