With a passion for introducing Vietnamese cuisine globally, in 2014, Phung Huyen Nam opened the first Vietnamese restaurant in Sri Lanka called “Pho Vietnam” (Vietnamese Pho). After 10 years of operation, famous Vietnamese dishes such as Pho and fried spring rolls have become familiar dishes, known to many indigenous people.

There are four Vietnamese restaurants in Sri Lanka, which is a significant number compared to the local communities and other ASEAN countries. Vietnamese Pho and other Vietnamese restaurants have coordinated with the embassy to organize successful events introducing culinary culture such as Vietnamese Pho Day, celebrated May 19, and National Day September 2.

As for many generations of Sri Lankans, many people have learned about President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap when mentioning Vietnam.

With the support of the embassy and the community's efforts, Vietnamese culinary culture has become more loved and known by Sri Lankans.
