Vietnamese Banh Mi First Introduced In Sri Lanka
Attending the event were Ambassador Ho Thi Thanh Truc, members of the Embassy, members of the Community Liaison Committee, the Vietnamese community, international and Sri Lankan friends, and several local press agencies.
With a passion for introducing Vietnamese cuisine globally, in 2014, Phung Huyen Nam opened the first Vietnamese restaurant in Sri Lanka called “Pho Vietnam” (Vietnamese Pho). After 10 years of operation, famous Vietnamese dishes such as Pho and fried spring rolls have become familiar dishes, known to many indigenous people.

Sharing at the event, Ambassador Ho Thi Thanh Truc congratulated the success of the Vietnamese Pho restaurant and acknowledged the efforts of Phung Huyen Nga in particular, and the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka in general in introducing and promoting Vietnamese cuisine. With the support of the Community Liaison Committee, the Vietnamese community will increasingly develop and unite.
Huyen Nga said Banh Mi is one of Vietnam's famous dishes, loved by people and international visitors to Vietnam. However, Sri Lankans do not know much about this famous street food.

There are four Vietnamese restaurants in Sri Lanka, which is a significant number compared to the local communities and other ASEAN countries. Vietnamese Pho and other Vietnamese restaurants have coordinated with the embassy to organize successful events introducing culinary culture such as Vietnamese Pho Day, celebrated May 19, and National Day September 2.
As for many generations of Sri Lankans, many people have learned about President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap when mentioning Vietnam.
With the support of the embassy and the community's efforts, Vietnamese culinary culture has become more loved and known by Sri Lankans.
