(VNF) - The Vietnamese Embassy in New Delhi inaugurated the Vietnam Doll Corner in the city’s Shankar International Dolls Museum on October 21^st.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Ton Sinh Thanh welcomed guests attending the ceremony.

Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh, presided over the ceremony that saw the debut of 99 dolls from Vietnam’s different regions, including dolls in traditional long dress, dolls in traditional costumes of ethnic minority groups, dolls in traditional bridal dresses, dolls performing art and water puppetry.

He said that these dolls vividly reflect the colourful and perse culture of the people of Vietnam, and expressed that through the Vietnamese Doll Corner, not only children but also adults in India and other foreign visitors will have the opportunity to understand more about the land and people of Vietnam.

The permanent Vietnam doll corner will serve as a cultural connects for Indian visitors to the museum. For them, the dolls will be a small window into Vietnamese culture.

Since the museum is frequented by lots of children, the Vietnamese dolls will be their first association with Vietnam. (Source: blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com)

On this occasion, Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh also thanked the Director of Shankar’s International Dolls Museum and his colleagues because they reserved an area for Vietnam to display dolls formally and believed that the event will contribute to promoting the cultural ties between India and Vietnam.

At the event, the representative of the museum said that India and Vietnam always have bilateral relations, with strong cultural and economic connections. The two countries have supported each other in the hardest times. Plus, the two countries will celebrate 45 years of diplomatic ties and 10 years of strategic relations next year.

He said that the Vietnamese Doll Corner at the museum will contribute to helping Indian and Vietnamese children to be closer and open the door for meaningful study.

Shankar’s International Dolls Museum was opened on November 30^th, 1965. The museum is home to the largest collection of costumed dolls in the world, with nearly 7,000 dolls from 85 nations.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, except Monday and holidays./.
