Vietnamese Students in Bulgaria Bridging Bilateral Ties

During his visit to the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO), Bulgarian President Rumen Radev affirmed that former students, interns, and trainees who studied in Bulgaria and the Vietnamese community currently living in Bulgaria are important bridges of friendship for the relationship between the two countries.

Vietnam and Bulgaria: Elevating Bilateral Trade Relations

During the official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Luong Cuong, a high-ranking delegation of the Republic of Bulgaria visited the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) on November 27.

HUFO Chairman Do Viet Ha, HUFO Vice Chairman and General Secretary Ho Xuan Lam, and representatives of the municipal Vietnam—Bulgaria Friendship Association and HUFO member associations attended the meeting.

In her welcoming speech, Hoang Thai Lan, president of the city's Vietnam - Bulgaria Friendship Association, on behalf of all Vietnamese people who have studied and worked in Bulgaria, affirmed that she will never forget her gratitude to the country and people of Bulgaria for always being a close friend, standing side by side, giving Vietnam valuable support. That support was both material and spiritual such as training human resources for Vietnam during the years of struggle for independence and national building.

According to Lan, more than 34,000 Vietnamese people have studied and worked in Bulgaria and they brought back the valuable knowledge and experience learned from Bulgaria, to contribute to building their homeland. Many of them have become excellent leaders, outstanding experts, scientists, and successful businessmen, making an important contribution to the development of Vietnam.

Lan said that the HCM City's Vietnam - Bulgaria Friendship Association was established in 2014, focusing on activities to promote and introduce the image of the country and people of Bulgaria to the people of the southern metropolis; becoming a bridge, accompanying and helping Vietnamese universities, training centers and enterprises to implement new cooperation models suitable to current practical needs.

Speaking at the meeting, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said that Bulgaria not only provided spiritual and material support in Vietnam's fight for national liberation but also invested in human resources through training Vietnamese citizens. Former students, interns who studied in Bulgaria, and the Vietnamese community currently living in Bulgaria are important friendship bridges for bilateral relations.

According to President Radev, the relationship between the two countries and the two peoples has been developing strongly in the past 10 years. Leaders of both countries attached great importance to the friendship between Vietnam and Bulgaria. Radev assessed that Vietnam is developing strongly in many fields. At the same time, he believes that the potential for cooperation between Bulgaria and Vietnam is still large, including exchanges in culture, tourism, education, and so on.

The Bulgarian President affirmed that in his role, he will promote trade cooperation, focusing on promoting investment cooperation programs between Bulgaria and Vietnam.

On the same day, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen met with the Bulgarian President. After their meeting, Nen and Radev exchanged a Letter of Cooperation between HCM City and Sofia.

During his stay in HCM City, Radev also attended the Vietnam-Bulgaria Business Forum and toured some local scenic attractions.
