The opening ceremony of the Vietnam - Japan Festival in Da Nang city 2024 took place on the evening of July 4 at East Sea Park (Da Nang city),

Vice Chairwoman of Da Nang City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi shared that following the success of the Vietnam - Japan Festival in Da Nang City in 2023, the city continued to organize the 9th Vietnam - Japan Festival in 2024. This year opens a new development stage for Vietnam - Japan relations with much prosperity after the two country's leaders agreed to upgrade the relationship to "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World.”

This year's festival expanded to many areas, from tourism promotion, investment, economic cooperation connection to information and product promotion, sports, art and culinary exchanges. In particular, the forum titled "Da Nang - Japan Meeting" will be held. The two sides will exchange specific contents and update new cooperation trends in priority development areas of Da Nang city such as high-tech industry, information technology, electronics, semiconductors and human resources.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam Ito Naoki stressed that exactly 10 years ago, in July 2014, the Vietnam - Japan Festival took place for the first time to celebrate the opening of Vietnam Airlines' direct flight from Narita to Da Nang. The year 2023 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Japan - Vietnam diplomatic relations. The milestone contributed to further consolidating and enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries. In Da Nang city, many wonderful and impressive anniversary programs were held such as the Festival of Light, the concert of the quintet from the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.

In September 2023, he said, Crown Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko paid a visit to Da Nang city. In November of the same year, the relationship between the two countries was upgraded to “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World.”

"The year 2024 is the start of the journey towards the next 50 years. Based on the success of the 50th anniversary, I hope to continue working with representatives of Da Nang city and Japanese businesses to further promote people-to-people exchanges through cultural, sports, and tourism activities as well as cooperation in the economic field, including investment activities," said Ambassador Ito Naoki.

Cumulatively, Japan has about 254 FDI projects in Da Nang city with a total investment capital of about US $1.02 billion. In recent years, many new investment projects of Japanese enterprises in the high-tech sector took place. The exchange activities between Japanese localities and Da Nang city are becoming more and more profound. The city has signed memorandums of understanding with 5 localities in Japan, namely Kawasaki, Sakai, Yokohama, Mimasaka, and Kisarazu (Chiba province). Japanese language education activities in Da Nang city are also very active, in which the most prominent is Da Nang University of Foreign Languages.

Some sports and art exchange program were held for the first time at the Festival such as Japanese baseball, Bon Odori, or bamboo dance exchange. At the Japanese tea ceremony and Vietnamese tea ceremony exchange, traditional and modern performing artists helped people of the two countries to learn the art and gain mutual understanding of each other's cultures.

On the same day, Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee Le Trung Chinh held a meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki. Chinh asked the Ambassador to promote and connect Japanese enterprises to Da Nang to explore investment opportunities in fields such as high technology, microchips, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI).... He stressed that the city government is committed to creating a favorable, effective and safe investment environment for Japanese enterprises in particular and foreign enterprises in general.
