Vietnam's Anti-Corruption Efforts Applauded

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met President of the European Council (EC) Charles Michel on May 20 (local time), within the framework of the expanded summit of the Group of Seven (G7), Vietnam News reported Monday.
At the meeting, the two sides expressed satisfaction at the positive progress in the Vietnam-EU relations.
Affirming that the EU is a partner of prime importance in Vietnam’s foreign policy, PM Chinh suggested the two sides push up the exchange of all-level delegations, and maintain and bring into play the efficiency of cooperation and dialogue mechanisms in the framework of the Vietnam-EU partnership and cooperation agreement.
PM Chính asked the EC leader to push the parliaments of member countries to soon ratify the EVIPA; and the EC to raise its voice for the EU to soon lift its yellow-card warning concerning the illegal, unregulated, unreported (IUU) fishing against Vietnam’s seafood exports.
He also expressed his hope for the EU and member countries to continue supporting Vietnam in attracting resources to implement the statement on the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
The EC leader expressed his joy at the vigorous, intensive and extensive development in the Vietnam-EU relations, and spoke highly of Vietnam’s efforts in the corruption fight.
He took note of the progress reached between the two sides in the yellow-card warning, and affirm the EU’s strong support to Vietnam in the green transformation and JETP implementation.
The leader also expressed his hope for Vietnam’s continued support for the EU in strengthening relations with the ASEAN.

The anti-corruption fight has been intensified in 2022 with strong, concerted and effective measures, heard the report at the 23rd session of the Central Steering Committee on Prevention and Control of Corruption and Negative Phenomena, according to VNA.
The building of institutions continued to be promoted, with the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat issuing nearly 50 resolutions, directives, conclusions, regulations and guidance on Party building and prevention and control of corruption and negative phenomena. The National Assembly, the Government, ministries and sectors have promulgated and enforced 640 important legal documents regarding socio-economic management and prevention and control of corruption and negative phenomena.
In 2022, 539 party members were disciplined for corruptive behaviors and intentional violations of laws. Forty-seven officials under the management of the Politburo and the Secretariat. Five officials were removed from the 13th Party Central Committee, two Deputy Prime Ministers and three deputy ministerial-level officials were removed from their positions.
Also, 557 cases were transferred to the investigation authorities for investigation, and 493 corruption cases with 1,123 defendants were prosecuted.
Legal agencies seized and froze assets worth over VND 364 trillion (USD 15.5 billion) in corruption cases, and sentence enforcement agencies recovered VND 27.4 trillion in those cases.
In the past decade, relevant agencies nationwide have commenced legal proceedings against 2,657 corruption cases involving 5,841 people, and prosecuted 2,628 cases with 6,199 defendants.
