Financed by the Central Power Corporation (CPC), the system was manufactured in Japan, allowing battery charging to maximum capacity in just half an hour.

Following a two month long installation, the solar power system is now able to produce an average of 108 kilowatts per hour, accounting for 10 percent of the daily power demand of the building.

According to CPC, the system was built to enhance ‘green’ vehicle use in the city. Each charger system will cost VND700 million (US$31,000).

On the same day, two Mitsubishi-brand electric cars were put into operation along with the country’s first charging station in a bid to promote the use of clean energy. Each car costs over VND1 billion (US$44,000), said the Tuoi Tre News.

Tran Dung, director of the corporation’s Central Power Electronic Measurement Equipment Manufacturing Centre said he hoped that more systems for battery operated vehicles will be launched across the city.

According to Tran Dinh Nhan, general director of EVN-CPC, the project is expected to be implemented at other facilities of the power corporation.

He also highlighted that the solar system marks the firm’s first efforts to develop a smart power grid.

The use of clean and recyclable energy is essential for the exploitation of natural resources, contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development, the general director remarked.

The Da Nang-based corporation also plans to work with Japanese firm Mitsubishi in production of battery-powered cars.

The central city has licensed 20 battery-powered and solar powered cars to serve tourists since 2012./.
