Visit the Monument for Gac Ma soldiers
The Monument for Gac Ma soldiers (Khanh Hoa) is completing the last construction items in order to put into use later this year.
The memorial site is at East Sea Park, in the north of Cam Ranh peninsula. Chairman of Labor Federation of Khanh Hoa and also Management Board member of the site, Mr. Nguyen Hoa said, the progress of the project was about 75% and is expected to complete and put into use late 2016, on the occasion of the Vietnam People’s Army establishment day (December 22nd).
On March 14, 1988, China sent many warships to attack and invade Gac Ma (Johnson South Reef) of Vietnam, killing 64 unarmed soldiers on duty on the island. Gac Ma contributed to Vietnam’s woeful and majestic history with the image of the soldiers who held each other’s hand to protect the national flag in the bullet rain from China. “The Gac Ma circle of immortality” has become an icon of patriotism.
These are some images of The Monument of Gac Ma soldiers which is progressively completed.
