VND220 billion for mitigating flood consequences in 9 localities

The Prime Minister has decided to earmark VND220 billion from the central budget to give assistance to 9 localities in overcoming the consequences caused by recent flooding.

Accordingly, Quang Ninh province will be assisted with VND100 billion; Lang Son province, VND15 billion; Dien Bien and Ha Giang provinces, VND20 billion each; Lai Chau and Son La provinces, VND10 billion each; Thai Nguyen and Thanh Hoa provinces, VND15 billion each; and Hai Phong city, VND15 billion.

The Prime Minister assigned the centrally-governed provincial and city People’s Committee to wisely use the support and other legal sources of capital to mitigate the consequences caused by natural disasters.

He also urged the localities to use local budgets to support the purchase of seedlings, animals and fisheries in the affected areas.

The Ministries of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs; Agriculture and Rural Development; and Transport will be responsible for supporting families whose members died or remain missing and whose houses were damaged during the natural disasters. In addition, essential food and antiseptics for disease prevention will be delivered to affected areas while clearance of roads affected by landslides will also be prioritised.

From July 24th to August 6th, torrential rain occurred throughout the northern provinces and cities and the central province of Thanh Hoa with Quang Ninh province suffering considerable losses in both life and property following historic volumes of rainfall. To date, 42 people have lost their life alongside VND4.6 trillion worth of damage to property./.
