(VNF) - On December 7^th, in commemoration of the International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian people (29^th November), the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Vietnam and the Vietnam – Palestine Friendship Association co-organised a meeting in Hanoi.

Attending the ceremony were representatives of the central and city leaders, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations (HAUFO), the Vietnam Committe for Solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Vietnam-Palestine Friendship Association; Ambassadors, representatives of Embassies and international organisations in Vietnam.

In his speech at the ceremony, Kamal Malhotra, U.N. Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative to Vietnam, read the U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's message on the International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

Together with the people of the world, the Vietnamese people will forever be close friends of the Palestinian people and wish to strengthen the relationship and traditional cooperation with the Palestinian state in many fields, he added.

Jorge Rondon Uzcategui, Head of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador of Venezuela to Vietnam, delivered a remarks expressing the solidarity with the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people.

For his part, Saadi Salama, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Vietnam extended to the government and the friendly people of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam the sincere thanks of the leadership and the people of Palestine for the consistent support given to the just struggle of the Palestininan people for inalienable national rights.

Also at the ceremony, the Vietnam-Palestine Friendship Association of Hanoi gave the Establishment Decision to the Branch of the Department of Arabic Language and Cultures of the University of Languages and International Studies of Hanoi National University with 70 members and a documentary entitled “This is Palestine” was screened afterwards.

In 1977, the General Assembly called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. This day has traditionally provided an opportunity for the international community to focus its attention on the fact that the question of Palestine remained unresolved and that the Palestinian people want to end the war and stabilise peace./.
