VUFO Supports Chilean Embassy with Friendship Activities

Attending the meeting was Le Duy Truyen, permanent vice president of the Vietnam-Chile Friendship and Cooperation Association, representative of the Americas Department (a unit under VUFO).
At the meeting, Ambassador Sergio Narea said that in 2023, Chile will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the late President Salvador Allende's death.
The late President was the one who laid the foundation for the solidarity and cooperation between Chile and Vietnam.
The celebration will feature a speech by the Chilean Ambassador to Vietnam, have a video showing late President Salvador Allende's interview at his home, in which he recounted the meeting with President Ho Chi Minh taking place in 1969.
Attending the celebration were the Vietnam-Chile Friendship and Cooperation Association, former Vietnamese Ambassadors to Chile and their spouses, and Vietnamese people who have been working in Chile.
Ambassador Sergio Narea wishes to organize a celebration with the support of VUFO in memory of the late President Salvador Allende, reviewing the process of Chile regaining its democratic rights. That helps the two countries appreciate the values of peace and democracy, looking forward to the future.
President Nguyen Phuong Nga expressed gratitude for the support and assistance of the Chilean people to the Vietnamese people during the struggle for national liberation, as well as the present construction and defense of the Fatherland.
She said that VUFO will coordinate with the Chilean Embassy to organize activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the late President Salvador Allende's death.
This is an event that not only the people of Chile and Vietnam but also the progressive people of the world are interested in. This is also an opportunity to pay tribute to the late President Salvador Allende's dedication to peace and the development of humanity and the relations between the two countries.
Vietnam and Chile officially established diplomatic relations on March 25, 1971Over 52 years, the two sides achieved many important achievements in cooperation such as establishing a comprehensive partnership (2007), signing a bilateral free trade agreement (2011), and establishing many cooperation mechanisms. The two countries joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (2018), and organized many high-level visits on the basis of trust and determination to deepen the relationship between the two countries. In the first 6 months of 2023, Vietnam's export turnover to Chile reached US$564 million. The import turnover of Vietnam from Chile reached US$218.5 million. The total trade turnover between the two countries reached US$782.5 million. Chile is the fourth largest trading partner in Latin America (after Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico). The two sides continue to closely coordinate and support each other at international organizations and multilateral forums, demonstrating the solidarity and close friendship between the two peoples. |
