Localities across the country have responded to “World Environment Day 2015” (June 5th) with the theme "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care,", by participating in a range of perse practical activities in localities across the country.

World Environment Day marked nationwide

The World Environment Day is an important international environmental event held annually by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Vietnam has responded to the day since 1982. Activities during the day response have contributed to raising awareness among communities in environmental protection and sustainable development.

This year’s theme of the day aims to call on each person, each country and each territory to protect the earth with practical activities in production and consumption.

Responding to the day, Hanoi has focused on disseminating information to increase communities’ awareness on the mass media; encouraging the communities to limit the use of materials that generate a large amount of exhaust fumes causing greenhouse effects, sustainably manage the natural resources and protect the environment.

Hanoi has also called on enterprises, domestic and foreign organizations, agencies, schools, voluntary organizations, residential areas and people to organise campaigns, programs and models to respond to the day, such as green living models, riding bicycles for the environment on Saturday and Sunday, and cleaning up the environment.

The southern province of Long An has also opened up campaigns on encouraging people to protect the environment, deal with climate change and rising sea levels, use environmentally friendly and reusable products, increase the use of high technology that consume less energy, and not to hunt and consume wildlife, especially those listed in the Vietnamese Red Book.

In addition, the province has asked authorised agencies to carry out programs and projects relating to environmental protection models, climate change response, the sustainable production and consumption, economic use of natural resources and take action to preserve biopersity.

The southern province of Bac Lieu has asked companies and production foundations to implement environmental protection solutions, build systems to minimise the use of water, air and solid waste pollution./.
