Young Vietnam's Player Shines at Int'l Youth Chess Championships

Third grade Le Phan Hoang Quan was crowned champion of the standard chess content at the 2023 Asian Youth Chess Championship in United Arab Emirate.

Le Phan Hoang Quan brought home a gold medal in the boys’ U8 standard event at the Asian Youth Chess Championships 2023 held in Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This is not Le Phan Hoang Quan's first record. At the age of 8, the boy won an individual Gold Medal in the Southeast Asian Youth Chess Tournament in Thailand 2023, and an individual Bronze Medal in the World Chess Tournament held in Batumi, Georgia in 2023.

Hoang Quan shared that he often studies chess by himself, reading books by national and international chess masters. Besides, he focuses on practicing every day.

In addition to being passionate about chess, he also plays Chinese chess very well. Recently, he won the Gold Medal in chess in the 9-year-old group.

Besides his good achievements in competition, Hoang Quan places great emphasis on studying.

Hoang Quan received the individual Bronze Medal at the World Chess Championship held in Batumi, Georgia.

Recently, Hoang Quan became one of the 18 faces of "2023 Children of the Year", a program organized by Vietnam Children's Magazine, in collaboration with the Department of Children and the Vietnamese Children's Rights Protection Association.

It aims to honor children who have made practical contributions to the community, and have outstanding initiatives and activities in related fields to promote children's rights in Vietnam; those who are resilient, and overcome adversity, and difficulties; and those with outstanding achievements in studies and extracurricular activities, arts and culture, and sports.

Hoang Quan's happy to know that he's one of 18 children selected as "2023 Children of the Year". He's grateful to the organizing committee for creating a useful playground, hoping that in the future, the program will grow more and more, reaching more students and opening up opportunities for many excellent children in many fields. This will help the children gain more motivation, inspiration, and aspiration, study hard, and perfect literature, art, and fine arts to be worthy of being the future of the country.
