At the closing ceremony of Day for Honoring Vietnamese Language in Vietnamese Communities Abroad 2023 in Hanoi, State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs honored five units and individuals with the title of Ambassadors of Vietnamese Language abroad in 2023, including Vietnamese Channel Happiness Station (Belgium), Dao Thi Chau Ha (overseas Vietnamese in Germany), Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen (overseas Vietnamese in Laos), Nguyen Thi Lien (overseas Vietnamese in Malaysia) and Tran Hong Van (overseas Vietnamese in Australia).

The contest was implemented from April to August 2023, targeting Vietnamese people living, working, and studying abroad, foreigners who love Vietnamese culture and language, and are fluent in Vietnamese.

Ambassadors of Vietnamese Language 2023 ensures the criteria of Vietnamese language ability (pronunciation, language use, eloquent ability), and knowledge about the country, and people of Vietnam.

In particular, these Ambassadors need to have community activities to preserve, honor, and develop the Vietnamese language in the Vietnamese community abroad.

Some activities include contributing to the development of quality Vietnamese language textbooks, trusted by many overseas Vietnamese, and taking initiatives to build bookcases/systems of Vietnamese learning materials for Vietnamese children abroad, implementing a free Vietnamese language class for overseas Vietnamese youth, winning awards for Vietnamese language at the national level at competitions related to Vietnamese language (rhetoric, storytelling, letter writing, singing).

A representative of the contest's organizing committee said that the Ambassadors are important factors in promoting culture, inspiring and motivating the study and use of Vietnamese among our compatriots abroad, thereby contributing to preserving and honoring the language in the Vietnamese community abroad.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said that the Vietnamese language is a valuable asset to the Vietnamese people.

It reflects, maintains, and spreads the identity and quintessence of Vietnamese culture, contributing to consolidating the independence of the Fatherland and great national unity.

For the community of about six million Vietnamese people living, studying, and working abroad, Vietnamese is a traditional pride, a fulcrum of connection, a factor in preserving traditional cultural identity, helping people assert their position, and confidently integrate with the world.

"Preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language in the Vietnamese community abroad is an important task, with practical significance, profound scientific and humanistic value."

September 8 is chosen as the Day for Honoring Vietnamese Language in Vietnamese Communities Abroad, according to the project to honor the Vietnamese language in the overseas Vietnamese community in 2023-2030, approved by the Prime Minister in August 2023.

The contest "Searching for Ambassadors of Vietnamese Language Abroad in 2023" is one of the typical activities of this project.
