Many in the crowd wore red shirts featuring the yellow star, held both Vietnamese and Russian national flags, and arrived early to greet the delegation. While waiting, they sang together the song “As if Uncle Ho were with us on the day of great victory”, and prepared over 100 red scarves and light snacks to offer the soldiers. The atmosphere was lively and warm, despite the chilly early May weather in Moscow.

Sharing with a VTC News reporter, Le Thi Thu Thuy, over 70 years old and a former student in the Soviet Union from 1976 to 1980, shared: “My husband, older brother, and younger brother were all soldiers who studied at the Soviet Military Political School. For our family, Russia is a second homeland. Today, seeing the Vietnamese Army march at Red Square, shoulder to shoulder with major powers, is a source of immense pride. Despite the cold and my frail health, I came here to support the young soldiers from Vietnam.”

Many Vietnamese children also joined their parents to watch the parade rehearsal, take photos, and interact with the soldiers. The event drew a large turnout from Russian citizens and the international community in Moscow. Some Russians chose to stand alongside the Vietnamese crowd, joining in the singing, taking photos, and engaging in conversations.

According to Dan Tri Newspaper, the schedule of the Vietnamese military rehearsal was shared with the Vietnamese community early in the week. Thanh Thuy, a graduate student at the Higher School of Economics (HSE), and her friends took the subway for over an hour to reach the area near Red Square.

“I arrived at a side street near Red Square at 5 pm and waited until 10:30 pm (local time) to see the Vietnamese contingent pass by. It was extremely cold, but everyone was excited. When the red flag with the yellow star appeared, the crowd chanted ‘Vietnam’ in unison and sang the national anthem in the heart of Moscow. It was an unforgettable moment,” Thuy said.

On May 9, Russia will host a military parade at Red Square to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism. Leaders from 19 countries and territories have confirmed their attendance. Many countries have sent military delegations to participate in the parade.

The soldiers representing the Vietnam People’s Army in this event are officers and cadets from the Army Officer Training School No. 1. They are aged between 19 and 30, stand at least 1.80 meters tall, are physically fit, and demonstrate sharp, powerful, and precise military drill movements.
