22-Year-Old Vietnamese Artist Wins Gold at 2023 Youth Friendship Festival
Duong Minh Quy, a student at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, brought home the gold prize at the Youth Friendship Festival 2023, which concluded in Indonesia on October 2, VOV reported Thursday.
170 contestants from 6 countries including Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, USA, and Turkey attended the "Youth Friendship Festival 2023" within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Arts Festival.
This is a playground for artistic talents of many ages to interact, perform, and shine on the big stage, in front of a large audience and a jury of the world's leading music professors.

The Vietnamese delegation won many Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards such as Nguyen Thu Hang, Nguyen Doan Thao Ly, Dang Anh Tuan among others. In the professional category, young artist Duong Minh Quy - a 4th-year university student, Vocal Music Department, at the Vietnam National Academy of Music won the Gold award.
The festival saw Duong Minh Quy perform pieces by Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music.
The judging panel gave the Vietnamese contestant's performance a favorable evaluation due to the profound expressions and vocal techniques used to deliver subtle and truthful emotions. The 22-year-old singer hails from Vinh Phuc province and is currently a student of the Vietnam National Academy of Music’s Vocal Faculty.
The 2001-born artist shared that when he received the news of winning the first prize, he burst into tears of joy and happiness. The Gold Medal is his pride when contributing to the glory of the country's music. In particular, he also wants to give this award as a birthday gift to Dao Nguyen Vu, a lecturer in the Vocal Music Department, the Vietnam National Academy of Music. He has worked hard to review and guide him throughout the past time, Quy said.

The Youth Friendship Festival is one part of the Asia Pacific Arts Festival (APAF) 2023 which is held in Bali, Indonesia, from September 28 to October 2.
The event aims to foster greater harmony, peace, and global friendship through diversified cultural exchanges and performing arts competitions.
This year’s event featured the participation of 170 contestants competing in different forms such as instrumental, vocal and dance, and various categories including solo, duet, trio & quartet, as well as small and large groups.
