In September 5th, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) cooperation with the city’s Vietnam–Malaysia Friendship Association (HVMFA) organized a ceremony to mark the 59th anniversary of the Malaysia's National Day (August 31st, 1957 - 2016) in Ho Chi Minh city.

(VNF) - In September 5th, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) cooperation with the city’s Vietnam–Malaysia Friendship Association (HVMFA) organized a ceremony to mark the 59th anniversary of the Malaysia's National Day (August 31st, 1957 - 2016) in Ho Chi Minh city.

Present at the event were Vice Chairman of The Ho Chi Minh City's Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee, Nguyen Trung Tin; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thuy Nga; HUFO President Le Hung Quoc; Deputy Director of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, HVMFA President, Tran Ngoc Son; members of HVMFA, with students of universities in the city area.

Malaysian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Sofian Akmak ABD. Karim; President of Malaysia Business Chamber in Vietnam, Theng Bee Han; Malaysian business representatives, many Malaysian students who studied and worked in Vietnam, also attended the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Ngoc Son, Deputy Director of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, HVMFA President, sent his congratulations to Mr. Sofian Akmak ABD. Karim, Consulate General of Malaysia and Malaysian communities studied and worked in the city on this grand occasion.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Son stressed that the 43 years of friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Malaysia have grown and flourished in various areas. The two sides agreed to elevate relations between Vietnam and Malaysia to “Strategic Partnership”.

Malaysia is currently one of the 10 largest trade partners of Vietnam, the total two-way trade between the two countries reached about USD 2.342 million (first four months of 2016). Especially, Malaysia is the second largest investor of HCM city with over 220 projects and a total investment of nearly USD 5 billion.

In addition, HVMFA in collaboration with the Malaysian Consulate General held many political activists, diplomats, cultural exchanges, awarded scholarships to poor children and support children with disabilities...

For his part, Mr. Sofian Akmak ABD. Karim, Consulate General of Malaysia, express his gratitude to HUFO and HVMFA for organizing this event.

He confirmed the two countries Vietnam and Malaysia had strong trade links and investment. Last year, Vietnam was Malaysia’s13th largest trading partner. Among the member countries of ASEAN, Vietnam has become the 4th largest trading partner, and import and export channels of Malaysia from 2012. Within the framework of the strategic partnership, leaders of Malaysia and Vietnam has agreed to increase bilateral trade to USD 15 billion or higher by 2020.

Mr. Sofian Abd.Karim Akmal highlighted that HCM city is a favourite holiday destination of Malaysian nationals. Within the first six months of 2016, the city attracted more than 200,000 visitors. In addition, educational and volunteer activities are maintained annually.

Earlier, on August 30th, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), Chairman of VUFO Vu Xuan Hong had a cordial meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia Mohd Khalid Bin Zamruni.

At the meeting, President of the Union Vu Xuan Hong affirmed that he would make every effort to strengthen Vietnam - Malaysia ties in all fields such as trade, cultural and diplomatic relations ... Also, he will in collaboration with VUFO of provinces across the country to support the Malaysia.

Malaysian Ambassador Mohd Khalid Bin Zamruni also confirmed will always cooperate with VUFO to expand people exchanges and cooperation between the two countries; hopes the two sides will hold more activities than public diplomacy to mutual cultural enrichment./.
