All eight Vietnamese students have brought home medals, including five golds and three silver medals, from the International Applied Physics Olympiad (IAPhO) 2024 held in Bandung City, West Java - Indonesia from May 23-26.
The Vietnamese team included a group of distinguished talents from the gifted schools.

5 Gold medals went to Nguyen Minh Anh (Natural Science High School for Gifted Students), Do Hoang Minh and Luu Quang Minh (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students), Phuong Gia Phong (High School for Gifted Students specializing in Natural Sciences, VNU), and Mai Chi Kien (High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi University of Education).
Meanwhile, 3 Silver medals belonged to Do Nhu Nam Son (Natural Science High School for Gifted Students), Duong Tuan Khai, and Nguyen Phuc Thanh (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students).
The International Applied Physics Olympiad is organized by the Indonesia Scientific Society. The Indonesian Scientific Society is a non-profit organization that is a non-government organization which has the main vision of advancing the world of education and science in Indonesia with three work areas through the Collaboration, Competition, and Development program.
Its main mission is to play a role in promoting, recognizing, and supporting excellence in science, providing scientific advice in the form of policies, building global cooperation, education, and public engagement, and being an institution that demonstrates the importance of science to all.

The 2024 edition attracted the participation of Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Philippines, Malaysia, Estonia, Peru, and Vietnam.
Participating in the exam, candidates solve 20 physics exercises in 90 minutes. At the same time, the organizing committee took the problems that won the Nobel Prize in recent years and explained them in the simplest form for candidates to access and understand. Finally, the contestants represent to the judges for 15 minutes.
Associate Professor, PhD. Nguyen Cao Khang - who has accompanied the IAPhO Vietnam team for many years, hailed the Vietnamese team, saying that they all have good knowledge of Physics and English.
Having passed the team selection rounds, they showed excellent performance at the final round in Indonesia. With a healthy competitive and academic environment, the IAPhO offers many opportunities for students to nurture their passion and talent in physics.
