President Widodo welcomed the new Vietnamese diplomat and wished the Ambassador a successful term in Indonesia, VOV reported.

Ambassador Thong expressed his good feelings about the country, culture and people of Indonesia, and expressed his honor to assume the role of Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia.

He said Vietnam and Indonesia have treasured a long-standing friendly relationship laid down by late President Ho Chi Minh and late President Soekarno.

The Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership has developed constantly over recent years, with two-way trade reaching more than US$11 billion last year, an increase of 40% compared to the previous year.

The ambassador vowed to try his best during his new term to promote bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of trade – investment, tourism, education, people-to-people exchanges as well as in new fields of cooperation such as digital economy, digital agriculture and clean energy.

Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi told Viet Nam News on the occasion of on the 76th anniversary of the Independence Day of Indonesia (August 17) that Indonesia and Vietnam are among the strongest and fastest-growing economies in the region.

Both countries' economy represents 45% of the ASEAN economy. Moreover, Indonesia and Vietnam are home to around 60% of people in ASEAN.

With this potential, Vietnam and Indonesia carry a promising future for cooperation that can bring more benefit. Vietnam is Indonesia's fourth largest economic partner in ASEAN and ranked ninth as Indonesia's biggest export destination globally.

In terms of investment, Indonesia was among the first countries to invest in Vietnam after the Doi Moi (Reform) policy in 1986.

The diplomat expressed his belief that collaboration in developing the digital economy ecosystem will benefit both Indonesia and Vietnam.

Indonesia and Vietnam also hold great potential in fisheries cooperation as both are blessed with rich marine resources. The two nations shall promote collaboration in producing key seafood products to become ASEAN contributors to the world's food supply. Moreover, stakeholders from both countries can also learn from each other to enhance their capability in developing sustainable aquaculture and seafood processing industries. /.
