U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper and U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Susan Burns attended the event.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Thuc Hien - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee stressed that this event creates conditions for businesses to strengthen linkages, cooperation, improve competitive advantages, build appropriate business strategies; establish contacts, share together, and cooperate for faster and more sustainable development in the coming time.

The Can Tho City Government is committed to the business community to pay attention to and build a favorable business environment for Can Tho to become a reliable and attractive destination, he added.

Marc Knapper, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, also noted the good relationship between the U.S. Government and Vietnam, that the attention of leaders of Can Tho City, agencies, departments as well as a large number of businesses at the seminar is a testament to the importance of promoting cooperation between the two sides.

Ambassador Knapper hopes that the seminar will further strengthen the cooperation and business expansion of businesses in Can Tho City and Mekong Delta provinces to the US market. Every year the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Consulate General Trade Office organize a promotion program to support business investment in the United States. The U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City is very interested in creating business expansion opportunities for businesses in Can Tho City and Mekong Delta provinces to expand their business into the U.S. market.

Also, this event is organized within the framework of the SelectUSA program, a program of the U.S. Department of Commerce, which aims to promote and support investment activities in the US by coordinating with relevant federal government agencies to serve as a one-stop point of contact for investors.

The delegates can receive useful information about the plan to develop the import and export market, services and find US partners, like information on the investment environment and investment policies, Vietnam's foreign investment procedures and certifications as well as guidelines for businesses when investing in the US market.

The event helped businesses to consult directly with members of the US Embassy and Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City about how to carry out investment procedures as well as requirements to update new US regulations for businesses when carrying out investment procedures as well as business cooperation in the US.

In 2023, bilateral trade turnover will reach more than US $120 billion. The United States is Vietnam's largest export market and Vietnam is the 8th largest trading partner of the United States. In the bilateral relationship between the two countries, there is a very important relationship, which is the relationship on investment. The US side is very excited to see Vietnamese businesses increasingly interested in and expanding business investment to the US market.

In the first 9 months of 2024, two-way trade between Vietnam and the United States has exceeded US $100 billion.

The United States continues to be the largest market for Vietnamese goods, with export turnover reaching US $89.4 billion, accounting for 29.8% of the country's total export turnover. For Can Tho City, in the first 10 months of 2024, the total export turnover of goods and services and foreign currency will reach over US $1.9 billion.
