A contest regarding designing and crafting souvenirs and gifts for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Year 2017 has been launched in Da Nang city on Jan 6th.

Both Vietnamese and foreign are eligible contestants, and the 50 best samples will be selected for final round.

The winner will receive a cash-prize of VND50 million (US$2,200), while the runner-up will be awarded VND25 million (US$1,100), and each of the two third place winners will receive VND15 million (US$666).

Besides, organising board will give ten consolation prizes to finalists.

According to the municipal authority of Da Nang city, the souvenirs must be able to impress APEC members, as well as convey the city’s commitment to environment protection and a ‘green city’ by 2025.

Earlier, the city has chosen the red-shanked douc langur (Pygathryx nemaeus) (vọoc chà vá) as Da Nang’s official mascot at the 2017 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation) Summit./
