The President extended warm greetings and wished good health to the family members, including Senator Isabel Allende, daughter of the late President Salvador Allende, who also holds a special affection for the country and people of Vietnam.

Welcoming President Luong Cuong and the Vietnamese delegation, Isabel Allende expressed her belief that the high-level visit from Vietnam would further strengthen and enhance the traditional friendship between the two nations.
Isabel Allende shared memories of her father’s experiences during his 1969 visit to Vietnam, including his historic meeting with President Ho Chi Minh and his lasting admiration for the resilient spirit of the Vietnamese people. As President of the Chilean Senate at the time, Salvador Allende gave several impactful speeches in support of Vietnam’s struggle for independence. Later, upon becoming President, he promptly decided to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.
Isabel Allende recalled her 2008 visit to Vietnam with her daughter for the centenary celebration of her father’s birth, where she was deeply impressed by Vietnam’s remarkable socio-economic achievements and the nation’s comprehensive growth, which has always been dear to her and her family.
Making his first visit to Chile, President Luong Cuong shared his emotional and positive impressions of the Chilean people's affection for President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese people. He affirmed that despite the geographical distance, the two nations have remained close, standing by each other through every circumstance.
The President remarked that for generations of Vietnamese who fought for national independence, the solidarity and support demonstrations from Latin American countries, including Chile, are well remembered. He emphasized that to the Vietnamese people, President Salvador Allende is recognized as a symbol of the international movement in support of Vietnam during the struggle against the United States. He was a friend, comrade, and the last foreign statesman to meet with President Ho Chi Minh before his passing.
President Allende’s visit to Vietnam brought a great sense of solidarity and encouragement to the Vietnamese people in their national liberation struggle. He is remembered as a significant figure in the Vietnamese-Chilean friendship and played a crucial role in establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries, making Chile the first South American nation and the second in Latin America and the Caribbean to do so.

President Luong Cuong affirmed that, on the foundation laid by President Ho Chi Minh and President Salvador Allende, the relationship between the two countries has been nurtured by successive generations and continues to deepen. Through this visit, both sides aim to identify key areas for strategic breakthrough cooperation to further integrate the two economies, contributing meaningfully to the development of both Vietnam and Chile.
Impressed by the hospitality and warmth of the Chilean people, President Luong Cuong noted that this reflects the special relationship between the two nations. He expressed his hope that Senator Isabel Allende, as a family member of the late President and in her role in the Chilean Senate and Socialist Party, would continue to support the strong foundation of friendship between the Vietnamese and Chilean people and contribute to the comprehensive development of Vietnam-Chile relations.
President Luong Cuong and Senator Isabel also discussed Vietnam’s experience in overcoming the post-war period, pursuing economic reform, and building a dynamic economy that has earned Vietnam its current international stature and reputation.
