ASEAN Para Games 2022: Vietnam Bagges 60 golds
Vietnam bagged 65 gold, 62 silver and 56 bronze medals, placed 3rd place on the medal tally at the 11st ASEAN Para Games in Surakarta city, Indonesia., VNA reported.

The curtains came down in Solo, Indonesia on August 6, marking the end of the 2022 ASEAN Para Games (APG).
Held in the Manahan National Stadium, the ceremony started with the visually impaired piano prodigy Allafta Hirzi Sodiq, 15, leading the stadium in Indonesia’s national anthem, Indonesia Raya, accompanied by an inspiring display.
The para athletes then took centre stage, marching to a roar of applause from spectator stands.
In his address, President of Indonesia Joko Widodo said, “Indonesia is very proud to be the host of the 2022 ASEAN Para Games. We have learnt that difficulty is not an obstacle. With commitment and hard work, it has enabled us to achieve a great performance. The solidarity shown by the para athletes across Southeast Asia showcases the strength of ASEAN.”
The flag of the APSF was then lowered and handed to Cambodia, the host nation of the 12th APG. It was received by a representative of Cambodia Hun Many and Secretary General of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia Yi Veasna. The national anthem of Cambodia then rang out as the flag of the next host nation was raised, followed by a performance of cultural dance and song to give audiences a taste of what lies in store in Cambodia in 2023.
Across the eight days of the Games in Solo, 1,224 medals were awarded to the para athletes. Indonesia ended its campaign at the top the medal tally. The host nation took a whopping 427 medals.
Thailand followed with 318 medals and Vietnam third with 182. Singapore returns home with 27 medals in the bag.
The Vietnamese delegation won a total of 183 medals, including 65 Gold Medals (HCVs), ranked 3rd in the whole team. This is the first time that Vietnam's disability sport has achieved such a high position since hosting the 2003 ASEAN Para Games in Hanoi.
The country aimed to strive to be in the leading group of the Games, targeting 35-40 gold medals.

According to the Head of the Vietnam Sports Delegation, in addition to the number of medals, Vietnamese athletes also broke 16 records of the Games, of which swimming broke 14 records and weightlifting set 2 new records. It is worth mentioning that there are impressive records broken because they have been kept from 2006-2007 up to now.
Vietnamese swimmers showed their excellent performance. Nguyen Manh Phu finished first in the final of the men's 100m freestyle -S4 with a time of 1:49:22. Trinh Thi Bich Nhu broke a record at the Games to win gold in the women’s 100m freestyle- S6 with a time of 1:25:11. Meanwhile, Le Thi Dung pocketed a gold medal in the women’s 50m freestyle - S8 with a time of 36:71 seconds.

In the relay event, Vo Thanh Trung, Do Thanh Hai, Danh Hoa and Le Tien Dat also broke a record with 20 points, securing one gold medal.
The swimming squad broke 12 records at the Games, bringing home a total of 27 gold, 20 silver, and 14 bronze medals, ranking second in the sports after host Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese athletics team pocketed 15 golds, 22 silvers, and 14 bronzes, ranking third in the medal tally after the host.
Taking place from July 30 to August 6, the tournament featured 14 sports with 907 competition events, and 1,286 athletes.
The Vietnamese delegation comprised 153 members, including 120 athletes, competing in eight sports, namely athletics, swimming, powerlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, and archery.
At the previous ASEAN Para Games in 2017, Vietnam won 40 gold, 61 silver, and 60 bronze medals, finishing 4th in the overall medal tally.
